Probably the most popular CPU for builders of the 1155 socket was the 2500K or 3570K? What is the preferred\most popular successors in the 1150 socket series?

I also think the MSI Z77-MPOWER LGA1155 board was a great full featured board and the reviews seem to verify that, but, the reviews I've read for the newer MSI M-Power MSI Z87 MPower LGA1150 I've read appear to be pretty poor. Would the builders here still run with a 1155 build for a new build or would it be more advisable to go with a 1150 build?

4670k for the processor. Pretty much any socket 1150 z87 board then. Intel chips don't need crazy high end boards with massive arrays of VRM's and great cooling.

I'd go for the Asrock Z87 pro 4 for single gpu or Asrock z87 extreme 4 for dual gpu.

1150 is more advisable. As for mobos see above.
