Just wondering if the Amazon Prime thing is of any use to us here in ROI?

I see they currently have an offer including a year subscription to their streaming movies and tv shows if you sign up or avail of the free month trial before 26th Feb so might be a good time to go for it if prime itself is any use to us here?

If you have a smartdns service it should work for you. There's a 30 day free trial, so you can cancel if it doesn't work out. I'm trying to find out what consoles and platforms are supported

To use the parcel delivery you'd need to use it with parcel motel,

to use the lovefilm part of the service you'd need to run it through a proxy

Hmmm, if you have to use PM it mightn't be much of a goer then. Alright for single Amazon items but the way they split a lot of multiple item orders it wouldn't be really viable then. Oh well!

Or you could be like me, and not be bothered trying to deal with Parcel Motel.

If Amazon want my money they can do a better job of conveniencing me. Like at the very least not having ads shown for offers I can't take, and make it clear upfront when I can't buy an item before I go through the checkout process and get stopped at the end. It's not that hard to program, and I puts me off using Amazon.

For Germany Amazon prime costs currently 29 euro going up to 49 euro. So if you are only interested in streaming (through vpn, smartdns or proxy) might be worth looking in to. It is reported they will offer the programs and movies in the original language, although currently LoveFilm Germany sucks offering only titles in German. If the library is a good as the US, it would be a huge improvement. I'm living in Germany so for me it is worth trying it as a current prime customer.

I haven't tried it myself, but if it's anything like their mp3 service (which I tried), it still won't work with proxy, DNS fiddling, nor VPN. They seem to recognise your location based on your credit/debit card origin.

If you have a UK bank or can borrow friend's card, you should be in luck.

Still, not worth the full prime service (£79) since you can't get one day delivery. You'd be better off going for the cheaper video only service (think I saw out for around £5 or 6 somewhere).

I signed up by mistake last year, bought a new Sony Blue ray and logged into my amazon account while setting it up by the time I realised it I was signed up for the year.
There is a lot of content you have to pay for, it's like paying an admin fee to walk into extra vision, netflix has nearly all the same content, is better laid out and has way more features.
It does work with DNS services as it's the American version I've been using, I won't be renewing the subscription as Netflix is to close to justify having both.

It's not fit for purpose so for us here in Ireland. Just another thing Amazon appears to offer to us here but when you dig deeper you find its not really practical.

I also hate the time wasted selecting certain items only to find at point of checkout they won't ship to Ireland, they really should flag items from the start so you don't waste your effort. Pity really as Amazon I am sure have a reasonably large customer base here but don't seem interested in making it as functional or attractive an experience as for those in UK for example.

You can end your prime membership now and they will refund you a portion of what you paid, go into your account and manage prime membership, then end it now

Tried to use this and it's unavailable.

    "Location restriction (1005)".

Seems you need a credit card issued from a UK bank?!

    Absolute bollox.

Well, I accidentally got signed up for the free trial on amazon.co.uk. You need to have an IP address in the UK to use the trial.

I already have prime for amazon.de where I am based and I was trying to set up my WII to access the limited english content available on amazon.de but because I had smartdns set up on the wii so I can access netflix, it redirected me to the UK store so I disabled smartdns, signed on the wii to amazon.de tried a video. When I reenabled smartdns to I could use netflix, amazon.co.uk prime trial seem to also start. I only have Irish based cards on amazon.co.uk

I'm not tempted to switch. I'll stick with netflix for now. Although the ability to buy videos or to rent on demand might be interesting if I ever run out of content on netflix.

Price is changing to $99 in the USA, but you can lock in the cheaper price for one year if you sign up or renew in the next two or three days I think.

Stay away from the German service, there is a reason it is cheaper than the UK service. To say it is sh*t would only be complementing it. There is very little content in original language. If you are in Germany then watchever is a far superior service. I have been a prime customer for a while now, will have to seriously evaluate if I will continue my subscription next time around as the price increase is really not worth it.

I agree, I'm an existing member and it expires in May and I'll probably cancel it. There's only about 60 videos available in english. I use netflix and with smartdns I can access the netflix library worldwide, RTE player and UK catch up and other geo restricted apps. I haven't been tempted to switch to Whatever although for a german based audience they do offer the Original Version choice out there for the German market.
