Genotyping bull calves

Have letters her for 12 bull calves looking for hair samples for genotyping. I sent away some last year but they didn't come up to snuff. What annoyed me was that by the time they informed me the calves were over 6 wks and had to be tested for TB in order to sell them.

Have any of you had bulls purchased by AI companies since this began?

Nope had 11 tested last year one with a 304 ebi and didn't make the cut.cobtract signed with pg to genotype 9 bull calves if there mother obliges this year.one praticular cow in calf to pkr that they more or less told me if she has a bull they want her.chances of a bull making the cut are small though

Milk sub index needs to be 110 plus for selection

    How old are they now?
Does it take long for them to do the test?

Had same problem last year waiting over 6 week mark for results.
This year sent off a few of the highest EBI bull calves they had requested.
In fairness the results are back much faster and calves can be sold before 6week mark.
Highest one came back at 326 but still no interest. There was Oman blood in that calf and I gather they need to be approaching 400 to get selected

1 in 70 tested gets called. If you send the BVD sample to the equine centre for analysis then they can genotype from that same sample, speeds it up a bit.

Are the AI companies still paying for calves that are being tested, regardless if there're selected or not?

Got another one Back yesterday at 290 Ebi

Milk sub index only 87 so no interest

I'm of the same opinion that unless milk sub index is not over 100 it won't even be kept as a stock bull-going forward I need to have extremes to be able to keep sales of both heifers and bulls as viable as they are now
