When I am on my own I always like something on low as I hate a quiet room.
By sound I mean cds radio mp3 etc. If you could only have ONE, would it be sound or do you need a picture tv dvd etc ?
I would choose sound over vision any day.

I imagine vision is more important to enjoy porn, only taking an educated guess here.

    Sound over vision definitely!

I like to have the radio on, just for back-round noise. Don't like when it's so quite. So sound over vision

I would prefer a woman running her tongue along the back of my ...........mp3 player

Vision is pretty boring without sound. Sound creates its own images. Sound for me.

Yeah, I can't decide either. It's Catch-22 for me. Either way I'm fooked...
Mind you, if I had a lovely little technological breakthrough type visor like my good mate Geordie La Forge, I'd keep my sound and part with my vision (albeit begrudgingly)

My mothers dad was blind and he always used to tell her he'd rather be blind than deaf.

I suppose it's a case of social interaction versus every day practicality, which do you value more.

Deafness wouldn't impair your social interaction - you'd adapt and learn to lip read. And there's social interaction online there as well. And as for every day practicality deafness > blindness by a lot I'd say.

Having said that, I'm still torn.

From a living point of view I would prefer sight over sound, but generally sound would be better as you can still communicate by phone etc and if we had more people like michael o muircheartaigh on the radio it would be great. He really did create a picture in your mind when he was in full flow at a match !

But if I was blind I wouldn't be able to see Natalie Imbruglia... :(

This hasn't helped me, but I enjoyed the song... :D

I'd choose sound over vision any day. One of my favorite past times is listening to music, if I was deaf, that would be impossible. Most of my social past times I would be unable to do if I was either deaf or blind, as they require both vision and sound to be done safely. My only past times I could do without one of them would be watching tv, listening to music and surfing the internet. When I watch tv, I really just listen to the sound, often times I watch tv while in bed without even looking at the screen. It wouldn't be possible to listen to music at all if I was deaf. Surfing the web wouldn't be possible if I was blind, but that's not much of a loss in my opinion. Socializing would be much easier for a blind person than a deaf person, and I'm a very social person.

The sound over vision goes back to rural Ireland where they used ride in the dark and the sounds used become the main indicator of doing it right.

    vision, unquestionably.

I would choose to keep my vision.

I wouldn't have seen the sunrise at the Pyramids, my Daughter being born and growing up, the fish that I'm going to see snorkeling tomorrow, Brock Lesner getting battered etc.

However I be deprived of my beloved Motorhead. I also wouldn't have heard Lady Gaga. Every cloud..........!

I've actually thought about this loads, and I've had loads of discussions with friends about it. I'd definitely choose hearing over sight. I love music too much to give up. I genuinely couldn't live without it. I play a couple of instruments too so that'd be pretty impossible if I couldn't hear. I also think that communication with others is easier this way as I could just understand people speaking as normal. If i were deaf, people would have to learn sign language or I'd have to learn to read lips. Also, on a very superficial note, I love animals and I'd get a lovely guide dog. That last point is obviously not hugely significant in my decision making process. Hearing would definitely win for me though.

Also, this post could benefit from a bit of a poll perhaps.

In terms of communication, just have a think about how much easier it is to communicate over this medium, boards, or texting, or online in general. I think I could survive with sight.

As for the people who can't be in a silent room and need background noise... I find that odd. Are ye the same in a room with one other person for example? Does a conversation need to be ongoing at all times? I'm not taking digs, just curious

Ah no, If somebody calls I would always kill the tv but if I was listening to radio/music etc I would just turn it down ? That is strange isn't it ! I don't need constant chattering either and pauses in chat don't bother me at all

When I'm on my laptop watching something, I have this weird thing where I have to have the tv on too. Please say that I'm not the only one!
