Really small civil ceremony? Approx 25 people...

Hope someone here can give us some pointers.

We hope to have a civil ceremony towards the end of this year. We only want our immediate family to attend (and partners). This will only amount to approx 25 people including us two.

Ideally, we would like a country house with accommodation for everyone and top quality food, for one night, but we can't seem to find somewhere suitable. We love the idea behind Delphi Lodge but this is out of our budget.

If anyone has any suggestions for venues or other tips for tiny weddings, that would be great!!!!

Don't know about what it's like for weddings but park hotel in virgina cavan might suit. It's a small manor house hotel, set on a golf course on the cavan lakes. They have a cookery school and award winning restaurant. When we visited we thought how nice it would be for a small wedding.

I went to a wedding in Brook Lodge in Wicklow similar to what you describe, and it was beautiful :)

The Rectory down near Cork (http://www.rectory.ie), Village at Lyons, Gregans castle in Clare, Zetland house in Connemara.
I like Brooklodge but I personally wouldn't like it for a small wedding, especially if you would like a private affair.

I was also going to say the Mustard Seed or Cloughjordan House - fab country houses with amazing food and really nice rooms for ceremony and intimate reception. Really nice owners in both too, who would make sure your day was really special and personal.

Due to other people staying in the hotel? I guess if that's not what you're after then yeh, best to avoid. Although I only saw a handful of people the weekend we were there and it was high season.

The wedding I was at there were around 20 of us I think, we had a private dining room, all at the same table, dinner was a banquet, and we had private bar afterward. The chapel is just stunning.

Maybe Rathsallagh House, in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow. I attended a wedding there a few years back and thought it was lovely. Here's a link.

My future sister in law got married in Lisloughrey with 25 guests. Same size as your wedding. They closed off part of the function room but it has a full-walled window on 2 sides of the room which was lovely - so while you're eating you're overlooking the lake and some old ruin and of course the lovely gardens there. Afterwards we moved outside to a sort of oblong shaped open room - it's more of a waiting area for if you're at a big wedding but because of numbers the band was able to play here, there's a bar and it's a nice cosy size for those numbers meaning people will be encouraged to dance given it's a small area and small dance floor. If you're going there though and like the small touches be prepare to do them yourself because outside of th fabulous decor that already exists, the hotel didn't seem to do anything extra decorations -wise

When looking for a wedding venue bear in that if you go down the route of a country house more than likely you will have to pay between €2,000 and €5,000 for the hire of the venue before you pay for food and drink.

Absolutely. We looked into this and between the additional costs it was going to cost way over what a small hotel would. Also to factor in the small details - possibly have to hire everything down to crockery & cutlery & glasses. If you're buying in drink do peopl eesrvice themselves? Messy maybe. Decorating the place beforehand. Lack of breakfast for people the next morning - will you have to cook or get someone to cook breakfast? More cost. Alot of caterers dont provide service staff, you may have to hire them yourself...so many things to consider for sure- even if money were no object....

The Raddison Blu St Helen's in Stillorgan have lovely small rooms and a wine bar downstairs that can be hired to accomodate that size party. Highly recommend

Would you believe I just had the exact wedding you are looking for. We are only married 8 days. We had a civil ceremony of 25 and had ours in Athenauem House Hotel in Waterford. The registrar married us in their beautiful Rothku suite and we had our meal which was one long large table. The food is absolutely amazing and the gardens etc are so beautiful for photographs, and they are very reasonable for food and accommodation. They have a lounge room then for the evening, where we had hired a guy playing guitar and got to have a first dance, so we had the small intimate wedding, but had the added trimmings of a full wedding. It really is the place for a small wedding. Bare in mind for a civil ceremony you can only have it Mon-Friday. They have I believe about 25 rooms.

I don't know it's current status, but Glenart Castle was an amazing venue that off season seemed to get very little business.
If you contact the venue directly and offer to book the whole facility out, you may get a much better price than the per room rates advertised online, where the booking engine company usually take 20% of the gross.
