Stolen car key - how quickly can it be changed?

My mother in law just had her bag robbed outside our house. She has her own car key, but had the spare in her bag. I know, I know, but can't do anything about it now...

What's the best/fastest way to sort or change the key so this guy can't just come back and take the car? We have it on the driveway with our car parked behind it for tonight, but can the key be changed at a garage or something?

It's a 2011 Opel Meriva. Any quick help appreciated she's worried about it and so are we quite frankly.

Just until you get sorted look at disabling the car, that could be as easy as pulling a lead off something in the engine bay (like a crank pos sensor) or removing a battery lead, or even just taking a wheel off.

All depends on your capability as to what way you totally disable the car.

Be aware that they still have the key, just because they can't steal it, they can wreck havoc/steal everything inside, radio etc...

Yeah going to do that - park it at my sister's place a few miles away for this evening. Cops were up and said to ring Opel garage in the morning and get it remapped, so that's it.

Sorry thought all keys where missing, reread your post and your right to move it out of there.

Well she has one key so it should be bit easier for a garage to replace locks than if she had none since doors can be opened and steering unlocked.

My guess is she'll be looking for 2 x new door cylinders (unless it has keyless entry), a new ignition lock, and some reprogramming the keys to the security module.
Not going to be cheap and her insurance may not cover the cost. For example AXA will only pay if keys are stolen your home if force and violence has been used to get into or out of your home and the theft was immediately reported to the Garda.

She may get away with just replacing door locks but on a 2011 car it's better to do the proper job.

And yeah, get that car away out of sight in a secure lock-up.

Just saw OP's post on re-mapping. Safe to ignore the above so.
