I'm currently in the college library writing an essay on philosophy through film and whether or not philosophical ideas are watered down or enhanced by film (yadda yadda yadda) and it got me wondering about my fellow boardsies and their philosophical notions.

Do you find yourself to be a philosophical soul? Do you have a €4.99 poster of Dalai Lama quotes on your wall? Do you feel the great Descartes influences your day to day living?

Or is philosophy a load of old rubbish? I will footnote your answers and full credit will be given in the essay.

This guy has purposely avoided the Matrix would you believe. In favour of Memento, Being John Malkovich and the like. So thumbs up for that at least.

Best title I ever heard for a thesis on film studies was "Here's looking at Euclid: Geometry in the Movies of Humphrey Bogart".

It's a long road with no turn.

    That, and:

Anything much beyond those gets filed under "Poncery".

When I studied philosophy in college i couldn't help but think these guys had too much time on their hands, asking questions almost what seemed just for the sake of it.not for me. Although I do quote Descartes from time to time, tongue and cheekily to try and sound all intellectual and stuff.doesnt work tho

I remember years ago watching the film "Jolson Sings Again".

Towards the end of the film, there was include a scene where they are setting up the cameras for the film "Jolson Sings Again "

I was always wondering should there be another scene showing the crew setting up to film the setting up of the cameras to film "Jolson Sings Again ".

Then should there be another scene showing the setting up to film the crew setting up to film the setting up of the cameras to film "Jolson Sings Again".

At this point one has to lie down for a while.

How do you study philosophy? My head would be absolutely melted. I am also too tired to be using the old brain this evening. I've never heard of the 'I think therefore I am' guy. The closest I got to philosophy per se was a module on jurisprudence. I want to shoot myself in the head during every lecture but thankfully overcame the urge and actually managed to scrap a pass in that god awful subject. I don't think it's for me.

I expect you will get a 1.1 in philosophy. Personally I think you're just wasting time and a lazy thinker. I can't wait to see your essay in film. Sounds original. Won't do very well at the box office.

Flattery will get you nowhere, buddy. I am currently hitting a 3.4 overall (admittedly to my surprise). But I'll be sure to work your criticisms of my non existent movie into the essay.

I did a degree in Philosophy the only thing it's useful for is if you want to go on to do a law degree ..or more philosophy.

Had to study philosophy for my Bac in France when I was young, was dreadful at it, because it felt so constrained, for essays we just had to regurgitate authors ideas, it was so hard to hit it right with our own.

But some bits of it have followed me through life, and now I'm twice the age I was then, I understand the point of studying it then. It's a great way to start people thinking for themselves, although at first it looks like you are just struggling to absorb somebody else's bellyaching about life.

Still would call it "prise de tete grave de chez grave" in my own language though.

There's a great need for youngsters here to learn to think for themselves, really, not just the rebellious teenagers knee jerk reactions.

You did say an essay in film. I would expect any decent philosopher to use language precisely but then you are hitting a 3.4. I hope it doesn't hit back.

I said an essay on philosophy through film. Philosophy through the medium of film to the average man. Soooo...this is awkward.

Shows im not really with it today. First time I read that, I was picturing some dude actually watching a bong with a stick and that awful "boooooonnnngggggggggggggg" sound. Was trying to figure out how that be helpful for philosophy.
