    Hi all,

Have a set of Aksiums that I want to use with Veloce and and need a Campy compatible Freewheel.

    Based in Dublin.

If you are unable to source a Campag freehub, then assuming you are using 10-speed Veloce you might find that it’ll work fine with a 10-speed Shimano cassette. Views on this differ mind you, and experiences differ too, but it’s worth a try if you are stuck. I've read similarly conflicting views for 11-speed, where some people say it works fine and others say it doesn't.

    Hey,
I will be going the other way,I'll be changing the free-hub from campag to shimano off a set of cosmics carbon 50mm, the wheels are few years old and are fitted with a cpag 11speed cassette, will the free hub body's swap over ? Are they the same free hub as the askium wheels ?

    Cheers zip,

    Zippe,

My aksiums are a few years old too but rolling well, would you consider a swap if the Freehubs are compatible, mine are 10spd but as far as I know the only difference with 11 speed is a spacer.

    Cheers zip,

Sorry, meant to reply to this sooner. I've not tried it myself, but from what I've read, compatibility between Shimano drivetrain and Campag cassette is hit and miss too, like the reverse combination, but is actually perhaps less hit and miss with the Shimano drivetrain. Basically it seems to work for many people with no modifications but with increased noise as presumably the chain is catching the edges of teeth in certain gears in particular. Strictly speaking you might have to adjust the limit screws on the rear mech a little though as Campag and Shimano cassettes differ a little in width.

As for compatibility of Mavic freehubs, from a quick Google search it looks like the Cosmics use the FTS-L freehub (assuming that when you say your Cosmics are "a few years old" you mean a handful of years - I have Cosmic Elites from 2000 and they take the long since discontinued FTS freehub) but the Aksiums don't, and if so then they are not compatible.

Swap agreed with Zippe, my Campy cassette is now on my Aksiums.

All I need now is a new crank from Wiggle?
