Hi looking for some advice here. We had a composite door fitted few years ago and it has leaked in several different places since then. company have been out to fix numerous times but now are saying if they replace it they can't guarantee that it woun't still leak. They are also only talking about a pvc door. Its at front of house and is very exposed. Should I insist on getting another composite door are they usually the best doors for keeping out wind and rain? Or is there another type of door for houses that are very exposed. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I had a set of composite doors fitted in my west facing porch last October. The porch is hit by all the Atlantic weather. I did quite a bit of research before choosing composite and was swung to buying them after reading the reports from Scandinavia which are favourable.

As with most windows and doors it is not often the product that fails, it is almost always the fitting. So I went with a reputable local firm with a good after sales service. They have been out twice to adjust the locking mechanism but it is working perfectly now and has never leaked.

You can only have plastic, aluminium, timber or composite and if any of them are fitted poorly they will all leak.

Why would your fitters say they can't guarantee a leak free product? If you can, reject the doors and get a better company to do the job. I did it with Munster Joinery after they damaged doors when they fitted them and offered my 100 euros in compensation.

    Best of luck

    TT

Hi Toptec thanks for your reply. My gut is telling me to insist on getting a replacement composite door. I think your right about the fitting being the problem. My battle with the company now starts in trying to get them to replace it or as your suggestion getting another company to do it that will stand over it. They are saying the can't guarantee water woun't come in. I don't understand a window/door company that cant guarantee water woun't come in !!! They were happy to sell it to us in the first place.
