Looking to take product photos. Need some advice

    Hi there,

    I'm a web designer and I often get asked by clients to take photos of their products. However, I don't have the correct equipment in order to do this. This is the camera that I currently have:
    91IGompBxOL._SX385_.jpg. Here is the camera on Amazon.

    It has a 18-55mm lens so I'm not even sure if that is suitable. If I was to upgrade my lens for the purpose of taking product photos would you recommend any in particular?

    Also, I want to have a white background for the photos so I was looking at something like this.

    However, some of my product shots would be clothing so I would doubt that this would suffice. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Have you thought about outsourcing the photography? What kind of extra price are the clients willing to pay for photography?

    I have thought about it but it's something I'd like to have control over myself if possible. A lot of the photographs would be for myself however as I'm setting up some affiliate sites at the moment and would prefer to keep the photography in-house.

    You might try looking for a mannequin or a wire mannequin for the clothes shots as for lighting it; a large window and something white you can move around as a reflector (or pair of same) might do if you can swing enough light and a usable background. Otherwise you're going to have to improv.
    On the backdrop, it'll do fine for small products but will likely be a pain in the ass for anything with reflective surfaces. I'm thinking you'll probably end up ditching the lights that come with it too, anything that says turn off if hot doesn't strike me as great it'll depend on how much use you get out of it I suppose.
