(UPC) Any reasons not to change a Cisco EPC2425 for the Technicolor TC7200?

    Hi,
Currently have a Cisco EPC2425 ina setup with a 3'rd party router as a DMZ. It works well enough but I am somewhat considering the higher speeds I would get with one of the newer routers.

I popped over to the UPC forums and was told I would get a Technicolor TC7200 as the upgrade.

Glancing through the threads here reveals that people aren't exactly impressed with the TC7200 though if you're coming up from an EPC2425 are there any drawbacks of the kind that would make you scream "No!!! Stick with the EPC2425!":) or even advantages (aside from the speed boost)?

I know bridge mode seems to be currently out of the question with the TC7200 though it was very interesting reading the workarounds that people did in the earlier days with it.:)

Basically in the very least I just want to be able to pop in the TC7200, change its local settings to match my network settings and away we go just like I set up the EPC2425.

    Thanks.

No experience of 2425 - had the basic 2203 modem before that.
Have had my TC7200 setup in a DMZ with an Asus 16N (stock firmware) since last year with no issues.
Not using anything that needed ports forwarded or anything, no game consoles, just pc's, media boxes, linux stb, tv's and phones - so not sure it matches your requirements.
Have just reconfigured it to be a modem only, so will see how long that lasts.

    Not sure if it helps.
    WW

The 2425s only real selling point is decent wifi compared to the newer gateways, but if you're bridging then thats of no concern.

Alright so got the upgrade and thus the Technicolor TC7200.

Had to call UPC to get it provisioned / activated to get the internet working (which I was told should have taken care of the phones at the same time).

However the phone line is still dead sortof (after 4 hours). I have a ringtone but can't dial out or receive incoming calls.

Tel1 & Tel2 is constantly flashing on and off (this to me indicates the problem is at UPC's end).

Rang support again and they're passing on the problem to one of their departments but will only get in touch within 48 hours...

While waiting I wanted to check to see if any TC7200 users ran into this type of issue?

Had something similiar when I connected the TC7200 first.
Left it for an hour and then rang UPC. Got eventually put through to tech support (not the usual support type). Seemed new mac address was not put through system correctly. Told me to wait an hour and all would be good. BB came online first followed by phone about 20mins later.
If you have no phone by the morning then ring again.
