Hi have just bought a 2008 Volvo S80 2.4L diesel automatic from a garage. The guy was an Arthur Daley I suspect.
The car in fairness is fab- cream leather- full service hx incl all receipts for work carried out since bought- one owner.
He tells me he had it serviced but after 2 days the dash is flashing 'service required'.
My question is is it possible it was serviced and this still shows?(it wasn't a volvo garage)? Anyway I can check to see if it genuinely was serviced?
I also note cruise control not working so am a bit disheartened.
    Niall

Could be a simple thing like not resetting the service reminder.

Diesel oil goes black fairly quickly but there should still be a very noticable golden colour to it. Dip it for oil and see what colour it is.

    Thanks for that,
However for the first 2 days that sign didnt appear. It just arrived last night. if it was a matter of not resetting it wouldn't it have been apparent immediately?

Its possible that he did a basic service and didnt reset the dash display. Its also possible that he did nothing with it.
What work is required according to mileage and service history?
Did you get a receipt for the work done.

If he didnt reset the service indicator, it would only show once certain mileage or conditions were met so no, it would not immediately be apparent unless of course it was already on.

Did you check the oil level? I imported an S40 last week from the UK, it's a 2L but it's got the newer D4 engine which needs more oil than the older 2L engine (5.6L instead of 4.3L). I also got a warning saying 'service required' but it was because the garage hadn't realised the engine needed more oil. I put in another litre myself and the warning has gone away.

How many miles are on the car and was a receipt for the work done given?
