Composite door problem

We got a composite door installed in November and are having problems shutting it since. When we push it shut it doesn't "click" shut and so doesn't lock. We have to bang it repeatedly very hard for it to "click" and shut properly. Installer said that it takes a few months for the seal to wear down snd then the door will start shutting properly. I find it hard to believe that they are selling doors that won't shut properly for months until the seal wears down? Any advice or info on this is very much appreciated.

Ha ha,Pinocchio himself would be proud of a lie like that.
The door lock plate and the door itself will need to be adjusted to shut propperly.Your installer sounds like another cowboy who bodged the door into place. He only wants the money and then run off but will provide no after service should something not be right.

If the hardware is good the catch on the frame can be easily adjusted without having to move all the keep. Cheaper ones may not have this. Either way should be do-able with a screwdriver. Don't go near the hinges.

I assume when held closed you can then engage the locks? You should really engage the locks on those doors at all times. The catch is not sufficient even if it the outer pad handle does not open the catch.

If you only engage the catch the door can be opened from the outside in seconds

Thanks for the reply lads. I always do engage the locking system. When you push the door shut it bounces back instead of just shutting into place. I told them I found it ridiculous about the seal causing it to do that. Just infuriating at this stage.

    Hi bono_v,

Can you please PM me the name of the company you went with and the brand of door you bought.

I am in the market for one and am doing some research,

    Regards,
    G.
