Are you working in better job than you are qualified to?
Just want to find out is there is many people without 3rd level degree working in jobs, where you must have college degree basically just to get interview.
And how did you do it?

Don't need a college degree for the job description but the workload we've been given is irrelevant to the job title and definitely degree worthy. Unfortunately the pay does not reflect as such.

If you're looking for tips on getting degree jobs without a degree, start from the bottom or sleep with someone high up. Either way, start at the bottom.

By using definite or indefinite articles.

Not now, but I have been. Desired qualifications were either an 'engineering or business degree'. I had neither, so asked them straight out at the 'have you any questions' part of the interview, why they had even brought me for interview, since I had neither (no degree at all in fact!). They said that my CV showed adequate experience. I got the job. Worked there for 2.5 years.

    I'm under-qualified.
How did I do it? I lied!

Nobody verifies a CV. Nobody requests transcripts. I've only had one job actually check a reference. It's all a joke.

Recruiters the cut neck riddling feckers won't look at you so would have to apply directly to companies.

Job Bridge might be a good start or go do a springboard course which is usually between 6 and 9 months and you get a degree!

I qualified as an electronic engineer and have never worked in engineering. But my current job requires ITIL which i don't have.
But it is like a game between me and HR...they getting the funding for me to get the qualification every year and me finding more and more creative excuses for not getting qualified.

It gives you a chance but probably not a good one. Unless you stand out exceptionally that is, best of luck and I hope you succeed.

The OP 's question was posted on some sort of 'post your own confessions ' site about 2 years ago. Unfortunately I've lost the URL a long time ago.

Why not just put the degree on your CV?

As far as I know, it's not illegal. It might not be 'right', but so what? If you don't get the job, clearly, you aren't qualified. If they interview you and you know what they want you to know, you really didn't need to waste your time in school.

I said I had a Masters degree but I don't. But they couldn't tell from asking me questions. That must mean a Masters degree wouldn't make me any better at answering questions.

Worst that happens is you don't get a job offer.

As long as it isn't a high-profile, public position, you aren't really risking much. If you get the job - you win. If you get the job and they somehow find out later (highly unlikely) and you get fired - so what? Now you can really put down that job you had, and the things you did/learned and your college experience will matter even less.

There's an American youtuber I follow who got a job as a webmaster with WWE by constantly pestering them until they gave him a 2 year unpaid internship, they hired him on after this. The guy didn't even finish High School over there and had no qualifications.

I suppose persistence and a willingness to make sacrifices can get you places.

I would've had the exact same thinking as you. However I work for a multi national and didn't come in on an entry level position gave them college results and references no problem. They mentioned that they wanted my leaving cert results and I didn't have them so fobbed them off. However they hounded me for them eventually I'd to take a day off and go get them.

I have feck all qualifications (1 expired professional one and a couple of specific courses) so I probably am. :o
Got an entry level helpdesk job nearly 10 years ago and just kept working at it. Drive and hunger can get you further then youd think

Fair enough - it's not going to fly at every company. But if you don't have a degree and apply to 10 jobs that require a degree, and 7 aren't interested, but 3 are and only 1 of them actually hounds you for the paperwork....you've still got 2 job offers :)

I was asked to provide my transcripts (for a Masters degree I didn't have). I have an undergraduate degree though, and I went to the website and got an unofficial copy, edited it in Notepad, so it said Master's degree, changed the dates and classes) printed it, folded it up, scanned it and emailed it to them.

You're lucky you haven't been caught lying to them. I wouldn't recommend lying. I have checked CVs of employees that have been with us 6 months after they started working with us, in addition to ones we got when they started.

It can also be easy to get caught out lying in an interview.

I've no degree, but everyone in the group I work in has.

I got my current job after a couple of 15 minute phone calls - no CV and no interview. In 4 months I've already paid for myself.

I could go to college and get one but why bother when I've got 20 years of experience?

And here I am debating the merits of a postgrad and stressing over my pg applications! Feck it, I'll just do what you did!:P

But seriously, how did you get away with this? What kind of career are you in?

Working as a lab tech with an honours degree in a chemistry discipline. Im overqualified for my job, and im on a work placement programme, meaning i dont get wages from them. Work as an analyst would suit my qualifications better

I feel I am under-qualified for my current role of unemployment. I feel that a few more years on the dole might offer me invaluable experience in terms of my entitlements.
