Ripplecom intermittent

    My ripplecom broadband has been intermittent for close to a year now. After many phone calls and emails last week this was the reason they have given me. They say I am exceeding my upload limit regularly so that is why it is cutting out. My wifes business has a cloud so this can be only reason I'm using upload. This is what they said to me in their last email.

    I have been investigating your issue of an intermittent connection. Since receiving the call out from our engineer, your connection is fine from here.



    However, you are still using almost you complete bandwidth allowance of upload (1mb). Your connection needs a certain amount of upload to ensure normal use, so if your entire upload allowance is being used up then this would be interfering with your connection. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do from our side to rectify this

    Your package is for 8m download and 1m upload. As previously outlined, any internet usage will need some of the upload allowance to be available to function properly. This is how internet usage works and will be the same with any network. If your upload allowance is being fully used then this will affect your general usage, this is just a fact.


    Is this acceptable? I pay €45 for the "service" and have to constantly power it off to get it back working.

    Ripplecom is my only option. I live in North County Dublin but am too far from exchange for decent service thru my landline.

    I also thought I was too far from an Eircom cabinet but I wasn't. The service I currently get is on paper on par with RippleCom BUT its a million times better service. Always worth checking again about a ADSL/VDSL service

    Ripplecom has been excellent for me for the last few months, started off just ok when I got it first last spring but now very consistent, 10-15 ms ping, 6-7 mbps typical average in the evenings.

    My reading of their email is that something on your LAN is constantly uploading to the internet at full speed.

    You may have a virus on one of the pcs on your LAN or maybe you are sharing files via BitTorrent which is maxing out your bandwidth on upload.

    If you can figure out what's causing it and stop it then it might help with your problem.

    That's exactly how I read it too. They are right, fill your upload bandwidth and you'll not even be able to browse

    I had ripplecom for about 4 years in West Wicklow and they were a complete farce.
    Their service was patchy at best some times it would work and then nothing, massive packet loss all over the place.
    Costumer service a joke I eventually gave them an ultimatum to fix their crappy service or I'm stopping their direct debits, of course the service didn't improve so I cancelled their direct debit rang them and told em to stick it, they still have yet to come and get their dish off my roof and that was 3 years ago.
    I moved to Wicklow broadband who have been perfect.

    Yes, uploading to the cloud would do exactly this. You need to limit it so it doesn't fill the pipe

    I'd suggest that your wife should talk to her IT dept. A well designed cloud app should be able to function and happily co-exist with other services on a 1mb pipe, so if it is maxing out the upload stream i'd say something is probably misconfigured somewhere. The IT guys should be able to diagnose it and sort it out.
