    Gone anon for this one.

We've been living with my mother for a few years and now need to move out...long story..wife and 2 young kids.

    I'm currently getting Jobseekers.

Would I be able to get rent allowance or is the 6 month rule on renting set in stone? Are there any extenuating circumstances allowed?

    thanks

Its 6 months renting or assessed as in need of housing. Go to your local authority website and print off their housing need asesment form. Fill it in and drop it into them for consideration.
If they accept you onto the housing list, they'll send you a letter which will satisfy the CWO.

Just to clarify, it will satisfy most CWO's. I've dealt with two in different counties who both required proof of renting for 6 months as well as acceptance onto the housing list :o

Well they were wrong to do that, you could have gone to their supervisors and got their decision overturned. It specifically says AND/OR not both.

I was lucky that I had proof in both cases but I was also asked to prove that I could afford it when I moved in and not now. Talk about hoops!
