Hi looking for some advice on what is the correct order and way to put my car back on the road for this year.

Ive not had the money to tax my car the last 2 years so ive had it off the road but its vintage this year and im planing to put it back on the road from 1st march and take my daily driver off the road for the summer.

I declared my classic off the road last September with the new rules.
So I need to declare my regular car off the road from 1st as the tax is out on the last day of feb.

So am i correct that I insure the classic from 1st march first then tax it on that monday 3rd march. Do I need to let the tax office know ahead of time I plan to drive it on the sunday 2nd march... Can I tax the car in advance of the month of march from March?

Also declearing my daily off the road (with rf150) can I just do that by post or do i have to make another trip to the tax office for that?

SORD can be done by post, just allow adequate time for delivery. I don't see a problem posting it now, dated to start 1st March, as the declaration is done in advance of the off-road period.

Don't think you can tax it before 1st March. Shouldn't be an issue driving it on the 2nd and taxing it on the 3rd. Don't think anyone would be bothered if you rocked up at a tax office and paid it the middle of March either. If you left it until 1st April then it would be 6 or 12 months price + 1 month arrears.

Well now, you cant just start a thread like this and not Tell us what your 'new' toy is.

Spooky Donkey, it is not quiet that simple. I am assuming your toy has become 30 years old since you declared it " off Road ". It is still probably classed as a private vehicle. You need to go to the tax office and have that changed to VINTAGE class, in order to get the E56 tax. You can do this before March if it over the 30 years old. I am sure there is a form for doing this, but I don't know which one. I hope this helps! Good luck with your new toy, I hope you enjoy it.

    Good point Matt,

If it's already Irish registered and needs a tax class change then get a RF111 and fill in the tax class change section.

Does anybody know whats involved in getting a ZV reg... I wasent bothered before but I realised there are other advantages in having one...

Spooky Donkey, if the car is already cleared, ( VRT Paid ) and issued with a County Reg, IE. 84DXXXXX they will not change it for you, at least, they would not do it for me. I wanted a 82 MH changed to a ZV plate. If however, if you have yet to clear it, ask for a ZV number.

There's no advantage when your up in front of the beak for having no NCT. :p

The only advantage I can think of is being legitimately able to use the old style of plates. I'll have a white/red with black digits reflective please.

They should do it, because as has been pointed out many times, the legislation allows for conversion of current format to ZV, but not the other way. Perhaps you need to go further up the food chain and get the request green-lighted.
