Tv3 The Lie

Contestants have to pick one lie from a list of statements. The list gets added to as the rounds progress Round 3 = 2 True, 1 lie etc.

Last night the contestants picked the category "Irish Geography". One of the statements which turned out to be true was "Niall Horan went to school in Mullingar"....

Geography has certainly changed since I did the Leaving, back then it was all oxbow lakes and what is the GDP of Sao Paulo, have they spiced it up with more youth friendly facts?

According to the folks at Ballymount themselves, this show is "proving a big hit with viewers"...

    http://www.tv3.ie/pr_sub.php?type=1&view_pr=446

I haven't seen any reviews of it in the papers or elsewhere on the Net, though.

I can't help but wonder how many people have decided "A quiz show from TV3... it's bound to be crap, so what's the point of even watching it, let alone playing along with it live?" :o:o;)

And I wonder, too, what the Scots will make of such a show - this is a co-production between TV3 and STV, who'll make their own version later.

It's not too bad, not sure if it works as a prime time show. My only issue, as with many quiz shows, is the hymning and hawing and the tension, THE TENSION, IT IS SO TENSE. Answer the question.

I agree too few questions to much trying to build up the excitement. Tipping Point is the worse for the ooohing and ahhing, though a good show other than that.
Monday night's The Lie had maybe 8 questions, the first couple were appaling but the the lads are doing well. Probably not in tv3s budget to give away 10k every week hence the low performance.

I wasn't going to say anything, can't blame the production on contestants!

Nearly a month in, and I still haven't seen any reviews for this show.

Have Pat Stacey and the like decided that a TV3 quiz is just not worth reviewing? :D

The folks at Ballymount are crowing, though:

Question suggestion for the French version. Category French Geography, Vanessa Paradis went to school in Paris

I'd like to think that if a French version does materialise, the questions will be more challenging.

    For instance:

Catégorie: Journaux. Le Monde est le plus vieux journal français.
Catégorie: Oiseaux. Le dodo s'est éteint pendant le 20e siècle.

    ;););)

Indeed, or what is Vanessa Paradis' favourite newspaper or bird.
Not an actual question under the stated category in either case but let's shoe-horn a pop star in there like they did with the Niall Horan question!

This is an awful program. Where do they get the contestants from? They haven't a clue. I watched the first one and it was so bad I didn't watch it again until this evening. They didn't know that kiwis were from New Zealand, surely anyone entering a quiz show should know fairly basic trivia. I won't be giving it another go. The whole thing is just bad and then the money is crap.

One of the first couples didn't spot the lie "Dr Jeckyll and Mr Monroe" or something. They seem to have picked a lot of thicks alright, suppose they don't want to be giving away 20k a week, no fear of that with the current batch.

Bet you need to take a General Knowledge test along with your application.
The worse you get the higher chance you have of being accepted.. :D

I applied for another quiz show recently on TV3, Pressure Point. They wanted to know educational history, whether you had ever been on tv or at a quiz, how you got on, how do you rate your general knowledge. I didn't get in anyway.

I notice that TV3 are still billing this series as "new" even though tonight's episode is the tenth...

2 questions about The Corrs so far....conspiracy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,844 ✭✭✭✭somesoldiers

I hear Tv3 are lining up Joey Essex for the celebrity version!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,038 ✭✭✭Go Harvey Go

    STV's version starts tonight.

How much different will it be to TV3's? Well, it has the same logo, and obviously the same format - but it'll probably have a bit more humour in it, as its host is a comedienne:

    http://entertainment.stv.tv/tv/269659-time-for-stvs-new-quiz-show-the-lie-all-the-details/

Now why does Susan Calman remind me of Anne "The Governess" Hegerty...? :D:D

I didn't get to se the last few, anyone know what the maximum win was?

I've only seen this once. You get €100 automatically at the start, and the couple conferred on whether to bank or not. Why would you go on a quiz show and bank your money on the only chance you get to, before being even asked one question?

in hindsight some of them might have preferred to do this instead of leaving with nowt

No there was another woman on to tonight, though she needn't have bothered.

Shhh don't say that, brought down another thread when someone mentioned that there were few women on the show. :pac:

Who was the returning winner on tonight show?

Ha, there was no returning winner oddly, 4 newbies and no explanation. Ah well time to try and get some answers on Only Connect

Humm better swot up on my Irish Geography. Where did Niall Horan go to school again?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,038 ✭✭✭Go Harvey Go

    Bump!

S4C have jumped on the bandwagon now:

    http://www.s4c.co.uk/en/entertainment/celwydd-noeth/

So that's three versions - all in Celtic nations. :o:D

It doesn't look as if the French have gone ahead with their own version (yet, anyway), and if any other countries have expressed an interest in the format, then I haven't heard. :o

Just watched last Wed's episode: 2 young girls (not sure if they were sisters or cousins but they share the same granny) did very well and took the jackpot of 10k. Not sure if that's the first jackpot winner, the first I've seen anyway and I have watched most of them. They had the right approach and took the categories they knew least first & held on to their life till they really needed it. Well done

Just catching up on episodes from a few weeks ago, one of the statements was

    Wembley stadium is in London
One of the women said "that's true because the tennis does be on it"!

They got caught on Toronto is the capital of Canada, picking it as false. They reckoned they had seen it in a magazine puzzle. Ok they won't be the first ones to get that wrong.

This show is the funniest thing on tv3, though not purposely. How Jonathan keeps a straight face is beyond me
