When you've sent off your application and payed how long is the call up usually? I couldn't find anything in the FAQs and in the application it only says if you've not heard back in 14 days to ring them.

Is it a few days? I know the van/truck only comes in the weekends which would be fine for me this week as I'm back home studying the CD, its rag week and I'm doing something more productive than drinking :P

It varies. Often a longer delay in January/February and summer time. How long have you been waiting?

    Thanks for the reply.

I haven't applied yet, I was just wondering how fast was it so I could do it this weekend or next. Gonna apply first thing tomorrow.

I'd recommend booking online through www.theorytest.ie, you get to see immediately what dates are available and choose the one that suits you best. Some centres may have dates available in a week or two, while others may take longer.

I did the C Licence test last month and was waiting 1 month for a suitable date, had a choice of some earlier dates though but they were mainly midweek and I was only free at weekends.

    +1
Do it online just make sure it's official, you'll be able to choose date to suit yourself.

I met someone during the week who after taking the day off work to sit the theory test brought her passport that was days out-of-date to be informed "not suitable"; had a Garda ID and informed "not suitable"; was advised she needed her birth-cert but did not have.

Ultimately had to fore-go this test, on this occasion, and informed would be waiting about 1-month for another date.

Just ensure when you receive your date, that you bring everything required of you :)

Good on you for doing this,

Quick question, If you pass the test is the license valid from that day or when you recieve it?

For cars anyway, you can't drive until your receive your permit, and the theory test certificate is only one step towards that. There are other hoops to jump through, like getting your photo and signature electronically captured. I thought I could do the test and fill in the form in one day, but for some reason the test centre and NDLS centre are miles apart, so it took two trips. I had to wait a good few hours in the NDLS, but the actual form filling and ID checking only took a few minutes. After that, its the potentially long wait for the permit to come - up to 5 weeks, I was told. And you can't drive with the receipt.
