Dry socket... Help!

Hi everyone,

I had 4 teeth removed last Tuesday & was back with my oral surgeon today. Turns out I have severe dry socket in all 4 holes.

I'm not a smoker & followed the surgeons advice to a tee. I'm in absolute agony. Aside from cleaning the sockets & giving me a prescription for Ponsan, the oral surgeon said it would have to run it's course as packing the wounds at this stage would just prolong the healing.

The pain is actually crazy. I was told to irrigate the holes myself with saline but I'm just wondering how long does this last & when will I start to feel better?

I'm exactly 7 days into it now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

really???

i'd presume you'd be told to stop interfering with the sockets and have them packed. anyone who self irrigates the sockets is more than likely to have washed the clot away and need them dressed. give your own dentist a call.

I feel your pain friend. It has happened to me twice over the last 12 months. My opinion would be to tell your dentist to pack it up, i was packed twice and healed in about 10-14 days (had a clove tasted in the mouth for a while though......)

What I did was to prick the gum area a few times with a sterilised needle so that it bled into the socket and formed a new clot. Almost instant relief.

Not sure if this is recommended or not, but it worked a treat for me anyway...
