hey im looking for a rough price on to get a few bits done to my 99 astra 1.4 3 door,

it needs a passenger side window reg its electric, a wiper motor, new dials as mileage screen isnt working and bulb is lighting it just not showing numbers.

and then there is steam coming from the exhaust its dripping tiny bits of water out of the exhaust but i have the car nearly 2 months and have sat in it one night for about 4 hours with engine on all the time and it has never over heated it takes about 20 mins to get to half way mark on temp gauge and stays there it doesnt go higher and ive never had to put water in it. its also a little over full with oil but its not smoke coming from the exhaust its steam so im abit confused. i understand it could be the head gasket in the early stages

im just looking for a rough price all in for it to be sorted give or take everything runs smoothly. cheers in advance and also a few usefull opinions on the steam issue would be greatly appreciated :)

Steam and water is normal unless there's load of it. If coolant and oil looks right I wouldn't worry about it.

If it's wispy with drops of water out of exhaust it may be just the weather.
But do take it to a local mech and let them have a look.
    Coolant and oil ok?

Check if your cigarette lighter is working, if not there's a fuse blown which is also the circuit the instrument cluster backlights are connected to!

If this doesn't sort the dash, you should be able to buy replacement bulbs for a few € and they don't take long to fit.

yea mechanic had a look at it yesterday he said that its nothing to worry about and the reason why its just that little but extra is because it hasnt got a good drive in a long time so its probly just alot of water in the exhaust because of the cold damp weather we have had :) yep oil and coolant is spot on no gunge around the oil cap or dipstick and no gunge in the rad either :)

yea the lighter works fine have used it a few times never any probloms and all heater stuff works perfect including switch for back window and cabin air its just not lighting up around the heater stuff or the screen in the middle of the dash that tells the time its all blank :) clocks work perfect regards revs and speed its just the mileage display thats ****ed but no warning lights or anything lighten up :) thinkin its a bulb behind the center console in the dash but how would you go about getting at it ? can you take out the centre console without taking out the dash ?

Replacing the bulbs in the heater console and stereo display are a pain in the hole! If you're diy-capable, there's guides on the internet; it'll take a little patience and a couple of bulbs pre ordered from your opel dealership.

The instrument cluster is fairly easy to remove; you'll have it out, bulbs replaced and back in in less than 10 minutes.

yeah i think il just get the bulbs and let the mechanic do it when it goes in to the garage id be confident enough with stuff like that but just dont have the money to fix my own mistakes so better off leaving wel enough alone incase something goes wrong :P

yeah i had the instrument cluster out there a few weeks ago its not the bulb thats the problom the clocks themselves are goosed its lighten up the screen but just not showin any numbers what so ever but everything else works perfect on them :/ there a bit tricky to get back in i find the best way is to pull the white clip out of the dash connect it to the clocks in your hands and then put the whole lot back in, its a tighter squeze but it beats having to try connect them up blind :P
