Does anybody know which shops (if any) seel Trooper ale in Ireland? Its fairly new but I'm interested in getting it.

Their websites says that "Premier International Ireland" are the Irish stocker, but I cant find anything about it on their website.

    http://www.ironmaidenbeer.com/overseas

I would order it online, but the shipping charges are gigantic! The beer itself is cheap enough at €18 for a case of 8 x 500 but it spikes to over €40 for a case if you order online.

anybody know anything about these premier international guys?

Drinkstore in Stoneybatter had/has some. I was warned against trying it, but curiosity and the mini-documentary about how passionate they were about it got the better of me. It's muck. Marketing muck.

    Redmonds stock it.

Its a fairly run of the mill ESB.

What's I've heard from real ale drinkers in the UK is that it is really very average.

yeah, it's nothing to get excited about, unless you are an "OMG MAIDENNNNNNNNNN \m/" kind of person.

I wouldn't exactly call it "muck" it's no better or worse than a hundred other similar bitters to be found up and down England.

Molloys in Clonsilla also has it.

Seen it in many shops actually seems fairly easy to get in Dublin.

Smiths in navan have it. It's very nice.

McHughs have it too, as others have said it's fairly ordinary, I only bought it for the novelty factor 3483951_58188f29f3_m.gifmusic-smiley-006.gif

I tried it in ATG. It's decent, nothing special. Was charge €6.66, which while funny, was rip off.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Hmm so it seems like it might be more available than I thought!
    thanks for the replies.
And I dont really mind if its run of the mill. I'm no beer connoisseur. I drink Tyskie, and Copper Coast Ale usually :pac:

Copper Coast is a lovely ale, no doubt. But Trooper really comes in under average.

Could it be the fact that its English? I had ale in London years ago and it was so much different than what I'm used to here. Apparently they make it differently over there.

Read in the paper yesterday that Status Quo are working with Wychwood Brewery on a beer called Piledriver, named after one of their albums.

I wonder is it mainly metal/hard rock acts that go down this route? Think Gamma Ray and AC/DC also have branded wines/beers.
Still have yet to locate a Maiden source close to home.

Well, fans of these crusty old rockers tend to be a staunch and devoted lot, so thats a lot of brand loyalty there.

I Think it fits in with the image of the older rockers, booze, broads and brawls just as practically every rapper seems to have his own brand of urban clothes wear.

Doubtless there are beer/clothes svengali's behind it all

Run of the mill English beer.

Very expensive for what you get.

Anybody know anywhere in Cork that sells it?

I know Bradley's had it at one stage, it's were I picked it up, but that was a good bit before Christmas. If they don't have it, it might be worth trying Galvins on Bandon Road.

For what it's worth, I though it was a good enough beer, certainly nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be given it is more or less band merchandise.

Slightly off-topic, but when it comes to heavy metal branded drinks, I think Lemmy has sold out a little bit...

A whole lot of rosé even

To make up for it they named the lager offering after one of their 90s albums 'Bas***ds'

Haven't tasted this myself, and by all accounts it's just a fairly standard ale - but it looks like it's been an astonishing success:
    http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/agribusiness-and-food/iron-maiden-beer-proves-to-be-a-trooper-for-british-brewery-1.1713660

"sold 3.5 million pints to date without a penny being spent on marketing". "the beer had gone from nowhere to being the most exported British craft beer." “Robinson’s are on three shifts a day. They are literally brewing 24 hours a day trying to keep up with demand,”. Incredible!
