any suggestions for a newbie? I have a feeling my bike will be doing a lot of trips around the country this year for weekends away. What kind of bike carrier should I get? I would prefer if it was on the back of the car as I will never manage if it is up on the roof by myself, are there advantages/ disadvantges to both types? And do they fit any car should I convince the other half to let me have the jeep can I use the same carrier? Sorry for the ignorance but I tried to buy online and got very confused.

    Hi
I bought a Thule9106 2 bikecarrier i thought would fit on to the rear door of my 01skoda octavia estate. When i opened the box the fit guide never mentioned my car model only a later version of it.
Anyway i assembled the rack and it seemed to fit car just fine. Then i got the hee bee jee bees and had visions of it and bikes on the motorway behind me. I contacted Thule and they advised me not to use the rack as they hadn't safety tested the rack versus my car model. I stood by their better judgement and never used the rack. Hanging in the garage since last April.
I then bought another rack from an online retailer and its fine, but unlike the Thule 9106 it doesn't have an integrated mechanism to lock the bikes on to the rack.
Just a point of note, not all racks for hatchbacks or estates fit every hatchback or estate, in my experience anyway. So i guess not all racks that fit a corsa would fit a jeep.

get a towbar fitted and a towbar rack. rock solid, doesn't damage the paintwork, doesn't damage the bike or bikes.

Have a tow bar in the 4x4 but could get one on the corsa if that is the best bet, thank you both

What year is your car, some of them have an optional bike rack fitted into the bumper. Don't know if it's as simple as picking one up from the web and fitting it, or if it only works as a factory fitted option, you can see what it looks like here
