    Hello,

    I've been assigned with a task of photographing a large number of people to add to a database on a website. Something along the lines of this:

    http://www.stefantell.se/blog/2010/01/lighting-setup-for-business-portrait/

    I have a Canon 650d, external camera mounted flash but no softboxs or anything in the way of a photographic studio setup (photo backdrops). Does anyone have recommendations on where, who and how I can realistically obtain the desired shots I need within a limited budget of approx 400 euro.

    I've checked on equipment from amazon, conns, DML and ebay. So many options, and not sure whats the basics I should get right first.

    Cheers :pac::pac:

    Why dont you just buy everything he has listed?? You will want to at least double your budget though. I'm sure you also realise that there is a learning curve with all that equipment and it isn't just a case of turning it all on and you're good to go!!

    If you want my advice and you probably dont but the basics I would get right first is to go back to whoever asked you to do this and tell them that you dont have the ability or the equipment at the moment to be able to do this correctly and you would be better off getting someone with more experience! That would be my advice anyway :)

    Two thoughts:

    a) http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/ - Paddy does post here from time to time, and always gives great advice on what to buy - that is if you need to buy.

    b) Are they individual portraits? If so then investigate the one light portraits. I see some references to it on the site you linked above, and check the strobist stuff for technique. You might only need a single strobe, a softbox of some description, and a nice background - you are probably going to throw the background into bokeh (at a guess).

    and a third thought, have you a nice portrait lens? just something that works well for portraits - a focal length appropriate, and quality glass - some like 35mm on a cropped sensor, others like he 50mm, and others like 135mm primes. Its a matter of choice.

    If you can work out what gear you need, DML can rent it out to you. But I think you need to know what you are doing before taking on such work. Unfortunately when people see you own a fancy looking camera, they think it will be easy for you to do these portraits, they don't really know whats involved.

    Do you really need to purchase?

    I used these guys once before and it was very good:

    Studio is a little on the small side, but for portraits that's not going to be an issue. Comes with flash gear, softboxes and all that jazz. 20 quid an hour, which means you can get three days of shooting for your budget, which would be a mental number of portraits. There's also a second room that can be used as a green room.
