SSD not recognised

Bought a 120GB Crucial M500 SSD and after installing it doesn't show up in my computer. Both the cables are working as they were connected to a disk drive before plugging them into the SSD. Is it a faulty SSD or is there something I'm missing out on?

Probably that it's not formatted. In the start menu type disk management and an option will appear saying "Create and format hard disk partitions", click this and you will see a GUI listing the hard drives connected. Find the SSD and format as NTFS

Ah yes found it! Where do I format it?

Edit - Never mind, got it! Thanks a lot.

Select the disk, right click -> create new volume (choose a size). Then select the volume, right click -> format as ntfs. You can partition it into multiple volumes if you so wish.

If this is the only ssd in the machine you will probably want windows installed directly on it. This is a bit trickier and may need a wipe/reinstall.

Okay another problem. Basically I followed this guide to clone my harddrive to my SSD and now I can't boot off the SSD as it isn't showing up in my BIOS when I select boot order, any ideas?

    Edit - Sorted it :)

Disconnect the other hard drive, so there is only the ssd connected. Then boot up...
