Punto / Stilo wiper linkage gremlins

Anyone who's does any mucking around with some of noughties (or is that naughty :) ) Fiats will now about their wiper linkages being prone to failure at the joints. Any Punto's I've come across usually get a complete new wiper motor & linkage courtesy of Traynors (a snip at €70 compared to dealer prices) as this has been the only long term reliable fix I've come across. I'm reluctant to fit replacement linkages because I've had them come apart, usually at night in the pouring rain. Similarly, drilling and split pinning the ball joint can fail, and usually does so at the most inopportune time imaginable.

Unfortunatelty the Stilo Wiper assembly isn't supplied by them, and sourcing them as cheaply as possible is still costing over €100. A colleague made mention of these clips available on EBay to repair the joint by compressing it together.

Has anyone any experience of using these clips, and if so, how have you found them?
