Running on 3 cylinders

The gf focus was running ok upto a few weeks ago. All of a sudden then only on 3 cylinders. It's been parked up since with nothing done to it but there is no EML. Would a diagnostic scan show anything with no light on? I know the coil pack is a common problem on them but I can't remember the last time one went if the light came in or not. It's 1.4 99.

Forgot to mention there was a new Bosch battery put in about a week before but I don't think that would make a difference.

Get the coil packs checked. As you mentioned its common and the most likely cause.

How or where would I get them checked?

easiest thing is swap the coils around and see if it causes another cylinder to not fire.

These have a single coil pack IIRC, 4 bolts and check with a known good unit. They aren't that expensive from Ford~80 IIRC, but Valeo or Bosch are around 60euro

A mech should be able to check them in a few mins.

As above they have a single coil. Common practice is to change the coil and leads.

Depending on the year then the frost plugs in the head need to be checked. If there's water in around the leads then that's causing ur misfire
