Garden panel fencing advice

    Hey,

With the storms of late and rot attacking my wooden fence panels I've decided to replace them but I was thinking of going down the concrete route. I know you can buy precast concrete panels that slide between the H pillars but at either ends the builders cut down on costs by nailing 2x2's on the walls to create the groove.

Obviously this would not hold the concrete panels and if they did rot will eventually attack them. Has anyone advise me? can galvanised brackets be got or should I stick to the wooden panels?

Can't you use a concrete end post, it's like the H-posts but just with one groove (U section)?

I would but the current H pillars are already in place with 1.8m between it and the wall so If I put another pillar in it would shorten the span and would be too short for precast panel.

Have similar problem, looked a concrete panels but was afraid of the weight as not sure how good the foundations of the H posts are. Kids climbing etc etc

Priced PVC fence panelling but was very expensive working out at roughly 115 inc vat. Looks really nice though, slots into existing concrete H posts.

looks like putting back up cheapie timber for me.

As long as it's pressure treated, and also not that cheap thin shiplap stuff builders usually put in, it'll last for ages. Mine has been in place since the house was built back in 1995 and it's still in perfect condition and hasn't been painted or coated with any preservatives either.

OP, if it's wind you're worried about I'd go with what we have, hit-and-miss panels like these. You can get different styles for the top of the boards. It let's the wind go through, but still gives you more than enough privacy.

Would a U shaped steel channel, sized to concrete panel, bolted to the wall work.
It would shorten the 1.8m distance by approx 12-15mm.
It would not be to much work to cut enough of the panel for fitting.

Some really good suggestions! Thanks for the help. THe pressure treated sounds like a viable option. I knew they lasted longer than ordinary wood treated with ronseal but I didn't know they would last that much longer.

But ya I think you're right about the precast panels, you'd hope the builders built the base able to take the weight but its not worth the risk if it collasped.
