Ryanair Travel Insurance query

    Planning a trip for a few friends across the pond to UK. Unfortunately, there is a doubt as to whether, when the time comes ( early April ) that one of the guys will be able to travel. Under normal circumstances, I know that you would lose the fare cost with Ryanair if you do not travel so I'm just wondering if their insurance policy covers a casual cancellation ? One would be on health grounds but for a pre-existing condition. The remainder of the group would not travel if the main party is not up to it.

    Going to book it anyway but if a €10 or €15 policy would cover above, then i'd take it for the group.

    I would imagine that it may cover the traveller not able to travel on health grounds (possibly requiring a cert) but would extremely doubt if they'd refund for travellers choosing not to go due to one person being sick.
    Completely understandable decision by you, but from Ryanair's perspective, you're simply choosing not to go, it doesn't matter about the reason.

    They generally pay out for missed flights, and those sort of accidents,, even if its your own fault. A quick phone call would sort it I'd say.

    Was going to agree with the above until I checked my travel insurance which is with AIG. Cancellation because of death, illness or injury to one of the party includes the following cover ....

    The Insurer will indemnify an Insured Person in respect of travel and accommodation expenses paid or contracted to be paid by an Insured Person in respect of their own Insured Journey (prior to any occurrence giving rise to a claim under this section) and not recoverable i.e. including forfeited deposits where the Insured Journey is necessarily cancelled or curtailed as a result of:

    (a) death, injury or illness of an Insured Person;

    (b) death, injury or illness of the spouse/Partner, father, mother, father-inlaw, mother-in-law, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, child, fiance(e), close business associate of an Insured Person or person with whom an Insured Person has arranged to travel;

    So it's worth the OP's while to check the Ryanair policy to see if includes cover similar to the above.

    Yeah, cheers folks, but a"pre-existing" condition would scupper any chances I'd wager. As I've said, we're booking anyway and if it happens then super. If not, its not the end of the world at €100 return per person. I had a 0818 number for Ryanair but that has ceased and they have moved to a rip-off 1520 number. Sent them a mail with the query. We will see.
