6 Beeps on installlation of Graphics Card

    Hi folks

I recently got a new Windows 8 computer (sorry don't have specs off the top of my head, will add them when I get home), and decided to add an old graphics card I had. I replaced the PSU with a 550w I took from an older computer - as the one I had didn't have the power - and the graphics card, a Ge-Force 8800 GT (I think! I am judging by searching Google Images - it could be a 8800 GS or a 9800 GT)

Anyway, when I turn on the computer, the fan on the GPU runs very loud and I get six long beeps, and that's it. No signal goes to the monitor.

But here's the stranger thing: The 8800GT (if that's what it is) has two output slots.

If I plug the monitor into the right hand side one, and turn on the computer, I still get the loud fan and 6 beeps. But soon, the fan quietens down to a normal level and the hard disk starts working away. If I then plug the monitor cable out of the right hand slot and into the left hand one I find the computer booted up!

I can log into Windows and everything works fine, but then when I log out, I once again get "No Signal" to the monitor, and so can't view the login screen in order to shut down. (I have to turn off the computer the old fashioned way)

Anyone know what this could be? I have read about switching from UEFI mode to Legacy mode in the BIOS, but I can't see the BIOS as I can't boot the computer and view the monitor at the same time...

Beeps are codes to tell you what's wrong. Dig out the manual or find it online and it'll tell you exactly what the problem is.

Did you connect the 6 pin pcie connector?

I did connect it, I'll have a look for the manual when I get home.
