Which accounts package do you recommend

    Hi all.
Im thinking of looking after my own accounts. At the moment we are paying our accountant to do book keeping, payroll, VAT,p30 etc.
I was looking at Big Red Book. What are your thoughts on this package?

What I like about it is them seem to be able to link payroll to our bank account so in effect the payroll software can send wage from out account to employees without us having to go onto banking online.

We had Sage & Thesauraus before but found it very complicated.

Anybody have any idiots guide to doing accounts ourselves, obviously we will be getting our accountant to do end of year.

We know that P30 is filed every month end and payable before 15th of following month.
But how is vat done, can this be offset against P30, if so-how?

    How is P35 calculated?

The big red book is a very simple to use bookkeeping package but a bit expensive so depends on you.

Most payroll packages should have an online banking module.

The P30 is a monthly return of the PAYE/PRSI/USC on wages.

The P35 is an end of year return of the Gross Pay, PAYE, PRSI & USC for all employees.

The VAT3 is the declaration of Sales & Purchase VAT for a specific period. If you have a refund on you VAT3 then you can have that set against a P30 liability.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks for the info.
What other accountancy software is there that is as easy to use as Big Red Book?

Does the software automatically calculate P30,P35 and Vat3 returns?
