    Tailgate? As in bootlid?

Happened to herself a while back.
Sprayed into lock with wd40, wiggled the key a bit and it got sorted. The locking mechanism was just stuck.
    Might work for you too.

Could be the switch itself. Have you tried opening it from the inside?

crawl into boot,or is there an internal release to pull, when door is opened check for broken wires at hinge as all the opening/closing breaks wires, any other issues like lights rear wiper not working?

Was in the the boot and can't see any way to open the boot but I'll keep trying.

Hold down the unlock button for a few seconds. The remote may have a setting for doors only and doors/boot.

you may have to remove either inside cover of tailgate or if you can see them bolts holding catch to body.

Google seems to suggest you're not the first, though lots seem to mention just replacing a switch will fix it so you might be in luck. Some forum mentioned a white manual boot release switch behind a black plastic panel, though im just repeating what Dr. Google is telling me.

it's written in the owners manual how to access the boot if the battery goes flat (or the solenoid breaks :P) because the k12 micra has no manual lock/ release.

you fold the rear seats down and access the boot from there, then there is a small plastic blanking cap near the boot catch that you take off and insert a flat headed screw driver to release the boot. it doesn't fix it, but if you need to open the boot door, that's how.

tried to find an image there but there's none on google. very hard to find a photo from the inside of the boot looking out i suppose. it'd definitely in the owners manual though. alternatively if you take a photo of the inside of your own boot and post it up here we should be able to point it out.

Just the ticket there is a tiny slit on the right of the lock when the boot is open insert a small flat head and push it across from right to left and it opens the catch so I charged the battery and hay-presto the car starts on the button. It turns out the selinoid for the boot catch is faulty and had been putting a drain on the battery replacing this soon and all should be well.A BIG Thanks to one and all
