Calculating degree classification

Really confused about how this works

    It's my final year...
    From the regs:
Regulations pertaining to the classification of a Level 8 Award by the
    University
8.1.1 Level 8 Bachelor Degree: To be eligible for consideration for the award of a Level 8
Bachelor Degree, a student must accumulate the requisite credits as specified in the Award Descriptor. The mark to be used to determine the grade of classification is the precision mark based on the first attempt at the relevant, approved modules. Where the original precision mark is less than 40%, and the student subsequently successfully completes the requisite credits, the student will be awarded a Third Class Honours degree irrespective of the final marks achieved.
The overall precision marks achieved across some or all years of the programme of study may contribute to the classification of the award.

    Then I read the FAQ:

Now I failed some modules and repeated... but my original precision mark calculated from my original sitting (where I failed) is greater than forty.

Can the results of my repeats have any impact on my degree classification/precision mark? If I pass them will the precision mark be calculated from the original (less than forty) result, a simple pass mark of 40, or the result I get in the repeat sitting?

I've always assumed it was based on your initial results, so if you got 39% the first time you sat the exam then they used the 39% to calculate your credits. Best thing to do is to go down to the registry and get them to clarify.

AFAIK if you fail a module the mark used for the precision marks it 40%. Your mark on your 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt does not count towards anything, as long as you pass.

If you think about it, if you fail every module 30% and pass them on the second sitting every time. If they use the mark you received on the first sitting for the precision mark you would come out with 30% which would not be enough to get a degree. Hence why they go with 40%.

Regardless of how well you do on your repeat, you either get a pass or fail. A pass is 40%.

You're better off substituting a failed module for a different one.

That makes sense to me and I hope it is the case. If my precision mark is calculated using 40 for the modules I failed instead of the lower score I got first time out (I rarely fail but when I do I fail spectacularly lol) it bumps my degree up a whole classification

I had thought this too but you are right the best thing to do is ask, I'll send an email
