Callan has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Its the fastest growing town in Kilkenny, (if not Ireland) and you will be able to get most of your major services and supplies. Its only a 10 minute spin from Kilkenny and €25 quid in a taxi coming home at night. You've got a pretty good dynamic going on in the town now in the last couple of years with a lot of clubs and societies to join. New faces too.

Well perhaps blobbyblob would be so kind to list the clubs etc in callan, Boxing yes, Handball yes, GAA John Lockes yep, are we missing some.
Apart from that it seems women are not catered for clothes wise, much better off going to Kildare Village or Kilkenny.
Callan people are charming and helpful, What with Aldi and Daybreak and not forgetting Supervalu, shopping is a breeze.
It is overall a lovely place to live.

the supervalue is a disaster of a shop though!
aldi and daybreak are v good yeah - the co-op is a handy spot to have close by too

You'd be better off living in Kilkenny or clonmel if you can at all.

What's the population of Callan town?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭deadybai

Callan has a population of 2,330 people making it the biggest town in Kilkenny county in terms of population. Unless you consider Kilkenny as a town.

Not very helpful in relation to the OPs question, without a good reason?

It had a population of about 6,000 mid 19th century. It was on the Dublin-Cork stage coach route. Then the railway bypassed it.

Callan is a nice spot alright, not to far from Clonmel or Kilkenny and the roads aren't that bad. :)

Is there a community hall or somewhere that can be rented?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭Threadhead

There's the Friary Hall which can be rented. It's usually very busy. It's a great spot though and right in the centre of town.

There's the Friary Hall in Mill Street which can be rented as already mentioned, there's also the Parish Hall near the Gardai station.

From what I've heard the Parish Hall is steeper to rent and not as easy to rent,

Roughly how much to rent them?
