Amazon slow to despatch orders lately?

Anyone else find that Amazon are much slower at shipping orders over the last few months?

They used to be quite quick at sending out your order but now it seems to take anything up to 5 days from the order date before it is even despatched.

Have they a reduced workforce or something

It seems to be pot luck, some people report delays and others - such as myself - haven't noticed anything of significance. I have placed quite a few orders in the last 3 months or so and they all pretty much arrived within a week (sometimes surprisingly quick). Free, super saver delivery.

As above, the only delays I noticed were in the run up to Christmas, which is to be expected. Always a week or less to me in Dublin from date or order.

I'm experiencing the delays too, used to dispatch in a day or 2 but now it's up to 5 days. It's even worse if the supersaver is iparcel & "fast"way.

Ah, not just me then. Usually it's a day or two depending on when you order it. Ordered something last Wednesday and it still hasn't dispatched. Usually, that would have dispatched over the weekend.

They're delaying orders to try and get people to sign up for amazon prime.

I placed 3 orders at the end of january, all arrived 2 weeks later
I placed about 25 orders last year, all arrived within a week.....

I'm finding the same myself. Before, I could place an order on a Sunday and would have received it by Wednesday at the latest. Not any more.

Same here. It's as if they are sitting on the orders for a few days before proceeding.

No need for the sarcastic smiley. In my experience they're sitting on items which are in stock for 2-3 days before dispatching them. Previously(2 years or so ago), in stock items would be dispatched within 24 hours without fail.
What other reason would there be for them sitting on in stock orders for days before dispatch?. This isn't just one item I've ordered, it's over 20 in the last 6 months, and each with the same experience. I signed up to the free month trial of amazon prime, and guess what. Items would dispatch within 6 hours.

No need for the sarcastic smiley.

It's very very rare that I use it, but it was most certainly appropriate. To believe that an operation such as amazon would even contemplate such an utterly moronic scheme is one thing, but to post it here - well that's simply libelous.

Obviously if you do pay for prime your order will get bumped ahead of a non-prime subscriber, that's one of the perks you pay for. Amazon are not intentionally not shipping items for shits and giggles in hope that a customer will then sign up for their prime service - that plan make such little sense.

Except Prime has no impact for Rep Of Ireland customers, so your theory is just silly

Well all of my orders are placed to parcel motel in Northern Ireland , so no, my theory isn't silly

Many of my orders over the christmas were left for up to 6 days after dispatch waiting to be picked up by iparcel, as far as i can figure out this iparcel only collect items for ireland from each amazon depot once a week and depending on when you place your order it might go straight away or might be held for a week or more.

I'm assuming by quoting that response that you also believe amazon are delaying regular customers parcels in order to push Amazon Prime?

No. They add much of the cost of the free delivery to most items anyway(compared to other online prices) so will not be losing much.

With that clarification in mind, I have absolutely no idea why you have quoted me.

why the hell would anyone buy from amazon the prices are trough the roof

    really, got some proof?

I use price comparison websites and Amazon is never far off the best price and more often than not is the best price.

Prime is worth it anyway, less than €30. Pays itself off after around 5 deliveries, plus you get access to certain Kindle books for free. Plus you can't beat ordering something this evening and having it delivered tomorrow morning.

That is being sold by a third party called MACRO.SUPPLIER, they have their own postage & packaging prices for non-UK addresses. It would probably be cheaper to have it posted to a UK address and then redirected.

don't get me wrong i'm not here to slate amazon.

tbh I don't really understand how they work I bought a transcend 1tb hdd from them the other day first time ever to buy from amazon .

Ordered stuff on Saturday & Sunday and it's just dispatched now going with an post. Did anyone else have their stuff dispatch now? Wonder do they drive a truck of stuff over on Thursday to an post possibly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,086 ✭✭✭OU812

Have always had stuff delivered at least a day ahead of their reported delivery time. Just got an order in today that's not due until tomorrow.

Only time I had a delay was at Xmas and that was coming from a third party, not Amazon.

@jester77 - which price comparison sites do you use?

I'm in Germany, but shouldn't matter as it's within the EU.

Well the example you've given is a product that was sold and dispatched by another company,

If you want cheaper items through amazon.co.uk then either pick items that are sold or dispatched by amazon directly or if you must use marketplace sellers (such as your example) then use parcel motel (provided your in Ireland)

...Apart from the fact that Parcel Motel is an independant third-party workaround? If Amazon cared they would just adapt it themselves. They don't care about the Irish market. May not be in their economic interest to do so, but you're deluded if you think Parcel Motel orders are standard practice.

Placed order yesterday, dispatched today. Super saver delivery.

I have stopped buying on amazon if I can avoid it because of the slow dispatch. My last order was ordered on a Saturday morning. Dispatched on Wednesday evening and arrived the following Monday. For things like DVDs and Books (my main purchases on amazon) it works out faster to ask my local shops to order them in for me.

Last 3 orders all Supersaver delivery within the last 6 weeks were all dispatched within 2 days including orders made on a Friday night so I can't complain. Even my last order which was sent by "iParcel" arrived in iirc 3 working days from the order. Its just down to luck, I've had iParcel stuff lost and orders take a week to dispatch but I don't think its down to any deliberate policy.

As for prices with Supersaver delivery I find it hard find anyone who can do better.

All depends on whether item is shipped from UK or their warehouse in germany. UK items reach in 2-3 days whereas germany takes 5-6 days...

Amazon have agreed new delivery service with DPD.

Purpose built warehouse in UK and new technology being added to all DPD warehouses in Ireland.

Not sure when it starts, but my guess is it will be soon.

I have to agree with the OP as this is something I've noticed with Amazon over the last 6 months.
I posted on here about it last year
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=86469865

Previously I'd say 90% of orders would dispatch the same day (unless ordered late in the day) now it is taking several days before they even leave Amazon. I am basing this comparison on the 40+ orders I've placed in the last 6 months.

Another change I have noticed is twice recently I had orders with all items sold directly by Amazon and all in stock but the order was split into multiple deliveries with multiple couriers. One order had 3 items, one shipped with the usual An Post/Royal Mail, one item via DHL Germany/An Post and the other item was via I parcel/fast way. It meant I had to make sure I was at home for 3 deliveries and not one. Seems like more items ordered on Amazon UK are being dispatched from warehouses in Germany.

You haven't been charged for it yet so just cancel the order.

I tried to cancel it last Saturday & yesterday and it wouldn't let me, they said it was too late.

No complaints here. Ordered an item last Saturday morning with free delivery, scheduled delivery at date when placing order was next Friday 28th. Package arrived today 3 days early.

I placed 4 orders since Christmas, none where late.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 987 ✭✭✭The Glass Key

Been waiting 2 days now for a DVD box set to be dispatched so just cancelled the order and reordered direct from Amazon which is just a little more expensive, will see if it makes any difference first order was only fulfilled by Amazon. Probably have another 2 day wait for dispatch.

My experience in recent times is that they are slower than they used to be about despatching super-saver deliveries, but even then they mostly arrive within the promised 4-5 working days.

Any time I've bought something expensive - Ipods and cameras in particular - I've noticed that they are despatched very quickly, presumably to prevent change of mind cancellations.

Yes ,they are definitely holding orders up,I've noticed it myself over the last few months .
I am waiting on an order placed 5 days ago to be dispatched ,all items in stock and sold by Amazon UK .

I have actually cancelled a number of orders recently as I was sick of waiting for the items to be dispatched .

Previous order of same item fulfilled by Amazon not dispatched within 48hrs.

    ^^^
I defo feel that any free del. order is bumped down the queue by Amazon fulfilling all the Prime despatches first. As more people join Prime then the queue just gets longer....

Placed an order on the 26th, with free supersaver delivery, and it was delivered this morning (28th). It has been a while since i got a delivery that quick from Amazon lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 987 ✭✭✭The Glass Key

So the order I cancelled had been waiting 2 working days and not dispatched that was sold by a company and fulfilled by Amazon.

Having cancelled that order I reorder the same product sold by Amazon on the 26th (Wednesday) in the morning and it was delivered by An Post on the 28th (Friday). Can't complain at that.

Is the holdup in stuff sold by external companies and then fulfilled by Amazon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭SamAK

Ordered an item on the 27th Feb, received dispatch email on the 28th. Expecting it sometime next week.

I guess that it depends on who the company is that you're buying the product from....Amazon is just the marketplace.

In the past, i've ordered something in the morning and have received dispatch email that afternoon.

I've never had to wait more than a week/week and a half for an item from Amazon! So i'm satisfied overall.
