Mods feel free to delete.I have this in the security forum aswell.just chancing my arm as the posters here work with antennas etc.

I'm after buying one of them wireless cctv cameras witha 7" LCD screen as a receiver.

it works fine but the place i want to put the camera is out of range of the receiver.

i was wondering if i got 2 connectors and connected a wire into where the antenna went and brought the other end of the wire closer to the house and connected the antenna to that end work.

So basically i want to put camera in position a minus antenna and got maybe 20metres of wire and attached one end to camera and one end to antenna and put antenna in position b which would be 20 metres closer to receiver

    Am i wasting my time?

I don't think it will work for you, the wire you intend to use would need to be shielded coax but I think the distance is too long. My opinion only.

Get a non-wireless ordinary colour camera that uses wire all the way. More secure and higher quality.

why don't you set that up temporarily with out screwing anything up or drilling holes just loose lay the cables and see if it works.

i do know that there are "Wireless CCTV Signal Booster Aerials", some can add an extra 100 metres. Do some research on these.

Satellite TV coax cable. You'll need adaptors. It will work for direct video cameras or any RF type camera with appropriate connectors.

Sell the cameras you bought if wired makes more sense.

Avoid "IP" cameras unless using a digital recorder. Very very much more expensive.
