    Hi folks,

I'm just looking for a little bit of advice. I'm an adult braces patient & had 4 teeth removed under sedation last Tuesday.

Since Tuesday I've pretty much been eating painkillers (panadol every 4 hours). The oral surgeon who removed the teeth said it was a straightforward procedure & went well, I'm just wondering if I should still be in this much pain?

I have a constant aching feeling in my jaw & the sockets themselves. I'm doing gentle salt soaks after every meal (I'm still on mushy food) & the wounds themselves look okay - bar a white film around the sockets. On the surgeon's advice I haven't gone near the sockets but am keeping the rest of my teeth clean.

I had my wisdom teeth out before & I genuinely felt alright after that. I wasn't expecting this time around to be so painful.

The pain is even waking me up at night as soon as the painkillers wear off.

Is this normal or could I have an infection?

    Generally 5days later...
If it is pain in all sockets, its prolonged post op pain....
If its pain and swelling in one socket, possibly infection
If its pain and no swelling in one socket, possibly dry socket

Sounds like dry socket to me... see your dentist....

Thanks for your reply Oral Surgeon. I'll be visiting my dentist first thing in the morning.
