What trees have fallen?

Just wondering what trees you have seen fallen in the storm of this week?
I saw mostly those massive leylandii/ cypress trees that are used for shelter belt.

I have a large pitch pine and a Beech tree on my site that I was worried about, but they're still standing.

Any opinions on trees that are more likely to fall?

Neighbour has a yard entrance with horse chestnuts on it. Donkeys old. 5 or so have lost a lot of branches.
Welost a dozen big fully grown beach trees between us and the neighbours.
Was planted in the 1800s so its the original bounds ditch

I lost about 20 mostly fir and some lelandii. I was cutting up one of the firs today and after limbing it I cut off the top and it stood straight up again. The rootball settled back into the hole and pulled it up, it looks odd now all limbed and the top cut off and standing straight up about 10m high.

Yes there is a lot of those cypress trees down. however most are older than leylandaii, I think that most are a canadian cypress tree Magna partha, I think not as fast growing as the leylandaii. There is an awful lot of these down most are 50+ years old.

not much down around here really

Around my area, it's all coillte forestry, and most of the big conifers (I think) have been snapped in half as opposed to ripped out of the ground.

And, weirdly, all the smaller stuff has been BENT, not snapped. Sort of what you'd expect from the shockwave of a very large bomb.

I swear there was a bloody tornado in our valley. Very strange.

Took a walk in my local forest park which has a fast flowing river running through it
99% of trees look ago(mostly broadleaf forest)
The ones that fell are the ones that where on the river bank or in marsh areas
I guess the fast flooding river and all the rain softened their roots
also the only real tall trees all either fell or last a lot of branches or where bent
most of the tall ones some kind of larch not sure which.

So very tall larchs and ones with wet roots in summary. from i what I saw.

Coillte are saying on social media there is massive damage.

Is there any data around as to which trees have best wind resistance?

Someone told me Oaks are the strongest

Is the Yew tree as vulnerable as the leylandii?

    You're fing lucky.

Apparently 130 trees down in Adare Manor, another 70 in Adare golf club and Ballyclough GC has another 50 or 60 lost.

5 horses supposedly electrocuted in Co Limerick stud.

I'd say I've at least a dozen (some are not even mine!) mature beech, sycamore, lots of shrapnel scattered everywhere and ash blown off half way up. Most trees shattered when they hit the ground due to the force.

Neighbour lost at least 8 large Macrocarpas, 2 slap down on the empty stables and one just missed the house, total destruction.

No one was hurt and on the bright side now I've got firing for the next 7 years!!

Be very careful with big rootballs, easy for someone to be standing under it as it comes down again and thats an awful lot of weight.
