Hi hope I'm in the right place here.

I have two questions the first is how many times can I be audited? This will be the third time in eight years or their abouts. Every time everything has been in order.

The second is regarding sea farers allowance. Normally I spend most of my trips offshore on fixed platforms so I do not qualify for it but this year i have spent 172 days on heavy lifting vessels so I think I may be entitled to it.
My account says I can't get it as I'm a self employed contractor, I think It makes know difference and I should qualify. My question is does anyone have any experience with this? Can I get it?

If anyone can advise me I would really appreciate it as I really haven't clue!

You can be audited as many times as Revenue likes. And even if you pass an audit they can still turn around and do it again with different results.

Ask your accountant again, or get a second opinion. You can even ring/mail Revenue and ask them.

Thanks for the quick replies lad and appreciate your help lads.

So is their any reason why I would be auited so often?

Ah I joined and left the vessels by chopper so I never left port with it and we were installing oil platforms not transporting goods or people. I suppose a seaman's book stamped by the ship wouldn't count towards shag all so seeing as I meet none of the criteria.

Thanks again lads that accountant of mines always right:(
