Exam voided as Lecturer gave exam questions before exam, any recourse?

Just looking for some information on the following situation:
    -Final year of Bsc Hons
-Lecturer provided Semester 1 exam questions before xmas holidays, stating it was his decision and his method...seemed unusual but some lecturers are different
-Day before exams results released, notice goes saying the results for that module are being withheld and looked into
-Results day, email sent out, result for module null and voided, exam to be retaken by (all students) at a later date

Does anyone know how this would effect the award of a Degree?
Is this the students fault, no one cheated as such, no one requested the exam questions?
Anyone been in a similar situation before or know if the decision could be disputed, legal action taken against the College/Lecturer?

**Mods - please move if you think this would be better suited to a different forum.

    Thanks.

I think the lecturer owes you all lunch. :)

Considering we've been told it may count as a resit, that would prevent anyone on the courses from receiving more than a PASS as their final award, regardless of other results, I think a lunch is a little bit low down on the list of concerns...:(

Do you know for sure that it is because he gave out the questions that it is being 'looked into'?

I think that is the rumour machine at work, but you should get the college to clarify, in writing.

Yes it was due to the questions, it stated in the email issued.
They aren't accepting queries in relation to it, as a meeting is due to be set up...basically stone walling us

Time for the students' union to start making loud noise.

The resits must not be classified as such. They need to be treated as an administrative problem as if, for example, the exam scripts were burned in a fire before correction.

The students have to be held harmless for the college cock-up.

The facts suggest prima facie evidence of maladministration. The students' union would do well to get a solicitor's preliminary advice. Would the Union of Students of Ireland be able to assist with that?

Offhand, there were a few lecturers who would tell in a general form what the some of the questions were. The reasonings was it was to be less of a memory test at the exam but more a test of comprehension and as well there was the expectation that such a question would have been marked harder than a similar unknown question.
