Buying car advice?

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a car but not sure which one to get.
I am looking for mid sized affordable car, such as Honda Jazz, or Nissan Note, or Mazda 2, Golf Polo. Around 15000 euros range with monthly repayment option. And car should be with automatic transmission.

I have many questions in my mind. One of the main question is:

Is it better to buy a second hand car (under 70,000 km) and pay the full amount right away, OR to get a brand new car with monthly installments?
Which option is better and economically in long run?
In case of latter option, is it better to take loan from banks like AIB or take the loan from the car's company dealer?

I will be driving 30 km a day average. So it's not that much.

Looking forward to hear from your advice and suggestions please.

    Thanks

    Also,
which one would have lower road tax and insurance?

You're thinking of spending €15000, tax is a tiny factor in comparison.
For such tiny mileage, I'd find it hard to justify spending that much.

If you want a newer car and are happy paying €15k then fair enough, its your money after all.
Given that you're talking finance, not having to spend €400 odd a month every month for the next 5 years might appeal too.

yes i cant pay 15000 right away, i will be looking to take finance only for that amount and after 4-5 years sell the car...
but if i buy second hand car, then it will be hard to sell it.

    Functioning cars will always sell.

Even if you buy a car for €5000 and sell it for €1 you've only lost €4999.

You have to ask yourself a lot of questions OP:

What will I be using the car for?
How many miles will I be doing?
What kind of roads am I going to be driving on? City driving? Motorways? Country roads?
Do I want a practical car, a performance car, luxury car, etc etc.

Come back to us with some answers to those and people can then give you good recommendations.

    thanks Moneymaker

I will be using the car to go to my workplace (15 km each way) and shopping in the weekends.
It will be city driving mostly.
And i want a practical car, easy to park, automatic transmission and low on maintenance cost. And a good resale value.

    Any suggestions please?

    I'd suggest a yaris (pre 06) 1.3 auto.

Been looking for Yaris now...looks good enough for my needs...but one thing i didnot like in it at all...its the placement of tachometer which is in the center...:(
any other car suggestion which has tachometer behind the steering wheel?

Having speedo in the middle isn't a problem really.

There was outcry similar to yours in 1999.

Fact is, its right in your line of vision and totally intuitive.

its just a matter of personal preference.

What do you say about Volkswagen Golf or Honda Jazz?
