How to distinguish genuine vs conterfeit parts

I'm looking into a wi-fi card upgrade (specifically I want an Intel WiFi Link 5300 for my laptop).
There are some on ebay etc., pretty cheap. Made in China.

Is there any way I can identify whether these are genuine Intel parts or can I not do that without buying first? I'm sure they still work as wi-fi cards, but if they are counterfeit then I supose quality etc. would not be the same.

    Thanks

Amazon has a lot less chinese crud on it for the most part. Check reviews to make sure an idem is up to scratch:

Thanks. Even those, though, when you click into them, are marketplace sellers mostly based in Hong Kong.

Are there any Intel approved sellers in Ireland?

Intel parts like that are made in the far east, just because they're coming from there isnt a sign that they're not genuine.

Dont know if you'll get something that small and specific here.

Just buy from a reputable seller and forget eBay as anyone can buy an eBay account with thousands of positive feedback, they are changing hands all the time. Ever see these eBay stores selling cheap nick knacks for pennies and wonder how they make money, they sell the account.

Bought WiFi laptop card off eBay before . Was UK seller I think. Perfect working away.

Just make sure your bios doesn't have a blacklist. Lots of manufactures code the bios so that certain cards from them will only work. U have to get a bios with the restrictions removed .

    Wow!
First I ever heard of such.
Got any links with more information?

    Thanks.

    EDIT:
It appears that the following manufacturers implement some form of whitelist/blacklist for allowable hardware in their laptops ...... I am still reading ....... so thanks for the 'heads-up' ......

Lenovo, HP, Dell, Toshiba and Panasonic

A lot of the cheap Intel wifi cards from China are genuine Intel but ES (engineering sample) which may or may not work 100%.

No problem. There was a forum I used before which basically modded the bios of numerous laptops to remove certain things. That's where I got my bios for my Lenovo. If I find it ill PM it to you.
