Hi I'm just wondering whether anyone has done this? and whether they have any feedback? Is it an exceptionally long, tiring haul?
    Thanks

Haven't done the train, but I did do the bus service last year from Busaras-left at 8pm, got into Holyhead around midnight (iirc) and were in Manchester for 4am.

Depending on where the ferry arrives in, it might be a long haul, but as I usually drive, I quite enjoyed just being able to sit back and relax, and being able to do some work en route too!

I lived in the UK for a few years, and there used to be a "quiet" carriage on some of the long haul train journeys-the idea being that in there, nobody talked, nobody played their music loudly or loud enough to hear over headphones-people worked, people slept, people read. Made many a long train journey bliss imo!

Just bring a good book, have your phone/mp3 player fully charged, and bring good headphones and you'll be grand! Hope it works out for you :)

tomorrow, for example, there's a train from holyhead at 13:58 arrives Crewe at 15:54 then depart Crewe at 16:11 arrive Manchester Piccadilly 16:49.

The holyhead to Crewe train is a Virgin intercity which has a buffet car, power points etc. It's a nice way to travel.

Sail rail tickets are usually the cheapest way to travel.

    www.Nationalrail.co.uk is your friend.

I am free on Ferrys and trains yet I still pay to fly
Waste most of the day when you can fly it in half an hour
