    Hi Folks,

I have applied for this tax credit for my special needs son. Can anybody tell me how long it usually takes revenue to process these claims? Also how much should I expect to get back?

    Thanks in advance

the credit is 3500 a year -- if you have paid less paye it will be limited to the lessor amount

how many years are you claiming back? They are usually pretty quick to process it.

If i remember correctly one of the below cannot be clamed if you are claiming incapaciated child tax credit- I cannoot remember which!

Home carers tax credit or dependant relative tax credit --

Edit -- I just just did some reading --- dependent relative tax credit is the one you cannot claim with the incapaciated child tax credit - also apparently it is taking longer to process claims and they have got very strict on the "disabilities of a permanent nature" & If the incapacity can be corrected or relieved by the use of any treatment, device, medication or therapy it will not qualify

Thank you so much for your reply.

unfortunately no amount of help, aids, treatments will change my sons condition.

I stated on the letter as far back as I could so I presume that's the previous 4 years. My doctor wrote a letter stating he will be like this after 18 and its unlikely he will ever live alone.

Would be great to get something back :)

Best of luck with it , I hope you get something . Check your p60s for the last few years . Whatever paye is down on it you will get back or 3500 , whichever is lower *

*3500 is the current credit . I'm only assuming it was the same for the last 4 years
