There won’t be a concert at Slane this year and Twitter blames Garth Brooks

Meh it would have been an overpriced gig for a so so band. At least the Lord's got sense to skip it. More power to the smaller festivals anyway, a lot out there that need the push.

Did the incident that won't be named have any influence on that?

Well, I'd imagine the beleaguered citizens of slane will be heaving a huge sigh of relief, anyway. I was shocked last year at the site-fencing that had to be put up all through the town, just to prevent the gardens becoming impromptu toilets, campsites, etc. I'm a big music fan, but I like to know the people who turn up in my garden to hear music first, and would hate to have a massive event like that, turning my small town into a "festival event", and basically barricading me into my home.

Ok, I don't even live in a small town, more of a townland, with a 15 minute drive to the nearest small town, and I did invite a bunch of people to come and camp in our field last year, and barbecue, and play music. But I knew all of them, we didn't need to have mad security all around to protect people's homes. That was great fun, but I can't imagine how nasty it must be to live in the midst of a music event in Slane.

There was talk of AC/DC doing Slane this year. I'm guessing talks fell through, and thus no Slane.

Well, I wouldn't give up hope on that just yet, as Henry Conyngham had said that two gigs every two years would be the direction for the future. He has also confirmed that it is his intention to get them and so I wouldn't rule out next year being another year where they have two concerts in the one year.

The big rumour for next year though, is that Slane 2015 will be a 30th Anniversary gig from the guy who played there in '85.

If that's true, and they secure AC/DC for also, I'll start queuing outside of Ticketmaster so early, that even Garth Brooks fans would say it was excessive.

I hear Slane is a pain in the arse to get to and get out of anyway on gig day. Heard a lot of horror stories.

Slane dropped the ball last year with having Eminem there. Slane should be strictly rock bands only. Kings of Leon can f**k right off too. Sick of hearing them.

Ireland needs a festival like Donnington in the UK. If I won a rollover Euromillions jackpot, I'd buy a load of land and stage it in July/August every year.

    A man can only dream.

That's a summers worth of neck nominees getting dragged out of that river avoided.

Nice to see common sense prevail for a change

I suspect this is due to the building work for the distillery and nothing to do with neknomination or Slane girl.

AFAIK the river gets fenced off to prevent that happening.

I went to Slane in '95 for REM/Oasis, bus parked on top of hill, walked straight into gig, great times.
I went to Slane in '02 for U2, were made park about 2 miles south of the river & had to walk 45 minutes through 4 checkpoints to get into gig.

    Never went to Slane again.
