You need to not look at just commission. It is a cheap tactic used by some institutions to appear cheaper. Price up the exchange plus commission for a few competitors. What currency do you need? How much of it? When by? Can you get it on arrival for example?

What currency? If you know anyone with a student account, they can get commission free FX from BOI or AIB(depending on what their bank is)

You get much better rates from an online Foreign Exchange provider (e.g. http://www.ukforex.co.uk/ Which I've used for a couple of years, customer service is very good and service is feature-rich).
Rates are updated more frequently intraday, and you get better rates for larger transfers.

Depending on how much you want, and effort you're willing to invest in versus walking down the highstreet.
