I don't start many threads but a discussion over on the general chat thread had me thinking. The scenario is that your console and games collection has been completely wiped out by a natural disaster, not even a copy of fifa 94 is left. (maybe not a bad thing:)) You decide to start over again but you can only choose one console or cab to collect for, harsh choices are called for.

I'm going to get the ball rolling by choosing the SFC/SNES, some of the reasons being that it was the first console I purchased with my own hard earned cash. Even today I never get tired of playing what are to me some of the finest games ever made with beautiful vibrant colours and magical sprites.
The first time I played SMW my jaw hit the floor, it was better than I ever thought it could be and I think came bundled with the SNES at launch. Box art on the Jap games are second to none and far cheaper that collecting for the PAL machine, have a good few games for the SFC at this stage and no longer buy PAL stuff. Interested to find out other people choices on this one.

I'll be weak and say the PS2, so many great games, originals, collections of past greats, exclusives and so on, I probably had more good times with the PS2 than with any other machine.
If I had to go earlier it's be the Megadrive though.

I know it's not an easy choice but......

So will I stick you down for the ps2 then:)

Would have to be a jamma cab for me

My heart says Megadrive, but my brain says Snes.

Would have to go with...Megadrive. There are just too many games on that console I couldn't live without.

Same with the Snes, but the Megadrive wins purely for oul sentimental reasons. I haven't been without one for 22 years - don't intend to start now!

Tough choice....PS2 is a very good choice...such a massive range on that system.

Its either MD or SNES for me too. So many great RPGS on the SNES but for pure nostalgia its the Mega Drive for me

    It does what nintendont!

If I actually bothered collecting games it would be the mega drive hands down also! :p

I play the crap out of it.

I still haven't fully warmed to the SNES / SFC.

I just plain suck at Mario Games, would probably love them more if I was good at them.

From a logical point of view it has to be the PS2, fantastic variety of games available for it to suit all tastes. Even has a reasonable selection of arcade classic :)

Would probably have to be SNES/SFC for me, though it'd be close between that, NES/Famicom, GBA and DS.

Has to be a Jamma Cab. I'd take Bubble bobble or Rainbow Islands.

Another Snes vote here...there's so many beautiful games on it.

Not sure I could stomach starting over if I'm honest. And only being allowed a single machine wouldn't suffice so I'd just stick with the fond memories. :)

Have to be SNES, Just recently got one with Mario Allstars, Mario World, Sensible Soccer, Sunset Riders, Zombies Ate my neighbours.

Yet to get Zelda's and RPG's.

Jut pips it over the Megadrive for me.

my collection is all disk based ps1-2, I would go ps2 as I know what im doing with them.

I'm going to cheat and say a SNES with a Super Gameboy Player. Gotta have Pokemon Yellow and Dynablaster. Oh and the Megamans.
The only down side to picking the SNES though is the lack of 4 player multiplayer mayhem that can be got on the likes of the Gamecube.

It's all PS2 for me. It's easily my favourite console, and it seems that no matter how many games I buy for it, there are still tons of great ones that I'm left wanting. I reckon my PS2 still sees more action than my 360 or PS3. If I could only play one console for the rest of my days, i'd be more than happy jamming away on the Playstation 2.
