Im going to give building my first pc a go.wouldnt be too well knowledged on specs but I believe I would be more than capable on the building end as I build dvr's for work. The pc would be used for soley music production.from what I know I would like to get an i7 with an ssd for the operating system and music programs. A good amount of ram. At least 8gb. A quiet fan and an acoustically treated case would help too. Was looking at a haswel i7 3550 processor and an Asus z87 type motherboard.my budget will be around 1000euro.would anyone be able to expand on specs within this price range for me.

    What kind of music production?

You don't need great specs for recording and mixing live stuff. If it's synth you should be looking at a xeon or i7.

I plan on doing very little live recording, if I am it will be vocals and maybe some guitar..the reason I am upgrading is the laptop I use currently, an acer aspire amd dual core just cannot handle the projects I work on, I get a lot of latency issues such as clicking and popping and I end up not being able to complete the tracks.most of my work is through midi using vst synths which take up alot of cpu.i7 is the way to go I believe.I make mostly trance bloodbath

Something like this should do nicely. HDD and SSD are out of stock though but can easily be replaced if you're looking to order soon. The soundcard can be got for €15 less on amazon if you want to save a little.

Do you need a monitor or any peripherals? Windows?

    Item|Price
    Intel Xeon E3-1245v3 Box, LGA1150|€250.16
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD|€29.69
    ASRock B85M Pro4, Sockel 1150, mATX|€59.07
    Creative Soundblaster Z SB1500, Soundkarte|€99.90
16GB Kit Crucial Ballistix Sport Series DDR3-1600, CL9|€125.43
    WD Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€51.27

Cheers for that man.the only Issue I have is with the processor and motherboard.its not reccomended to use an matx board for a music production pc.whats the difference between the Intel xeon and an i7 or i5 even.the soundcard is not needed as I own an external one thats made for audio production

You probably already know about this, but sometimes desktop PCs can inject noise into the audio due to ground loop issues (even with an external DAC).

I have an i7 gaming desktop and I recently added some active studio monitors. I could hear screeching noise sounds coming through the monitors that didn't happen with headphones. I added an external DAC, which reduced the noise level but didn't eliminate it. Finally I added a behringer hd400 hum destroyer and that completely killed the noise.

Why is matx a problem? You're losing practically nothing off the board. Nonsense if you ask me, you could have dual graphics cards and a sound card on an matx board if you wanted.

That xeon is virtually identical to the i7 4770 but cheaper :D

Its what ive read by experienced audio pc builders on a good few forums.I wouldnt know the exact reason behind it to be Honest.is their anything wrong with the Asus z87 type of boards which I was looking at? Would the xeon be compatible with the z87.also is this type of build future proof and will allow for expansion? Sorry for the noob questions

I could understand not going Mitx but not Matx. Are you sure you're not confusing them? What was the reasoning behind it?

You could go for the atx version of the same board if you wanted and change the case to a cooltek antiphon or the Fractal design R4 or Nanoxia Deep silence 1 if you want to spend a bit more. The DS1 is a pretty big case though for a pc that only really has a cpu and ram in it.

No need for z87 unless you are overclocking. It's a waste of money otherwise.

Still 2 ram slots free even on the matx board if you ever needed to go to 32gb. Plenty of pcie slots as well if you wanted to add an internal sound card, wireless or graphics ect.

If you think you might add a graphics card for gaming or video editing in future then grab the 500w version of the same power supply.

I'm guessing you read this link. A lot of the advice there is bollocks. Nothing wrong with matx at all.

How big is your sample library?
