This is a very low cost device with compatible accuracy.
I can't read the full specification of the unit but it HAS to have a feature called emmissivity compensation . To get anywhere near an accurate reading it has to be set to the figure that corresponds with the material being measured . The easiest way to get an accurate reading is to measure a matt black finish which equates to an emmissivity of 1 . This can be achieved by covering or wrapping the target item with black insulation tape.
    This will help.

Don't bother trying to measure any material with an e factor of less than 0.4 with that thermometer.

It will also tell you the minimum target size + distance and field of view ( FOV ).
If it has a min target size of say , 50mm , then if you try to measure a target smaller than that, the instrument will be in error. This is due to the surrounding non target area also being measured but at a different temp. and as the measurement is an average of the cross sectional area of the min. target area the result is an inaccuracy .
They are cheap for a reason .............

Saw this online, looks ok, but they are cheaper online on amazon.

Id probably go for this, wont work out much less getting delivered. Was going to get one to check certain parts of the heating, to compare relative temperatures, more than ok for domestic application I think.

I got one on e bay, it was cheaper than that, it works fine, aim it at the thermostat housing for engine temperature.
Good for checking for imbalance on your brakes too.

I use it mostly for checking that mug of coffee, when I can't remember how long its been sitting there:D
