Sky+HD offer

My satellite dish broke yesterday, very rusty but I'm sure the wind didnt do it any favours. Long story short I can get a sky+hd box with new dish and free installation for the same price of an engineer call out. (extra €5 a month for 12 months vs €60 to be exact). I can then cancel after 12 months. I still have one old tele, is it possible to watch the HD box on this? Is the sky+hd good? I've been a customer for years but the extra €15pm never interested me for basically a better picture but on demand is on this too. I live in a national broadband scheme area with "fantastic speeds" of 1.8mbps so I assume it would take ages to download stuff over wifi on to the box, is that right? Would I be better off getting a new dish instead for my €60 and keep the old sky+ box? One last thing I assume the old sky+ box will just turn into a freeview box when i take the card out, i.e. cant watch planner or record?

You can buy a hd box for about 60 euro on adverts etc but you will get a new dish, new box, and HD is good. Your BB is hopeless but may still work, however with sky I think it actually downlaods to box so could be a pain. Butw for 60 euro its a no brainer.

There is a caveat with the new sky boxes, they have no rf outs and even the newer ones may have one scart socket and you can use that on old tv.

HD is better than SD even on an SD TV. So say you are watching BBC1 HD it is still viewable via scart and it is better than BBC1 sd via scart.

Yes old box should switch to a FREE TO AIR, (freeview is the UK digital terresetial service ie DTT) sky are making it tricky to switch box these days but if you get hiccups post back or do a search. Get the HD box.

You can add an I/O link, it replicates the old RF2 output, examples http://www.tvtrade.ie/amplifiers-and-diplexers/rf-modulators.html

Are you being asked to pay an additional €15 for HD subscription? I don't think it'd be worthwhile if you don't have a HD television. It's hard to justify at the best of times.

Lucky u webpal, the folks sky wouldn't work, the sky "agent" told them the dish was broken €160. I checked it a week later to see nothing was being recorded. Turns out there water in the cable and the box is banjaxed. Engineer is coming out to replace the wire and box, didn't think it would be covered however the call centre said it would be.

They did offer a new box for €249 or a HD subscription fir an extra €15 a month. However if they are willing to replace my current one with a sky+ box I don't care

Just for the record I rang and cancelled the hd sub as I'm happy with what I have. Those I/o links state that they may not work depending on distance. So I just got a new dish. Came within 2 days and cost 60 quid.
